Hello!

The experts will have to weight in on the numbers, but D VVS2 might be overkill -- and cost you way more $ than you need to pay to get a great stone.

There are several beautiful I and J color stones (see some of the threads on this site), but if you''re extremely color sensitive and don''t want to go to an I or J, even an F/G/H would be beautifully white. As for clarity, no point paying for something you can''t see. How ''bout an eye clean SI1, or even an SI2? In those instances you have to see the stone to be sure that it''s clean enough for your eye, but you can certainly go to a VS2 and have a clean diamond.

Have you compared this stone with one (or a few) that are a bit lower in color and/or clarity? If not, it would be a useful exercise because you will probably find that the differences between color and clarity grades are slight (if at all noticeable) to the eye, but hugely noticeable to the checkbook!

I am no expert on Radiants, Coda 72 is a big enthusiast and is a big help with Radiant questions so she may be able to help you further. Regarding the D colour and VVS clarity you could drop a little and still have a clean and beautiful diamond. Apparently Radiants can show more colour than a round, but you could possibly look at an F or G and it would still be very white and drop the clarity to a VS or even an SI1 if it is eyeclean. However to some having the very high clarity and nothing less than a D colour is incredibly important, I just wanted to let you know there were other options. Check with the vendor regarding the thin girdle that there isn''t a risk of chipping. If you have seen this diamond and love it then that is the main thing, Radiants can''t be completely judged by the numbers and need to be seen to appreciate their performance. If you have any other measurements that come with this diamond that would be helpful too, hope this helps get you started.

Well, I''m not going to tell you not to get a D, VVS2 if that''s what you want, but there are some lower priced alternatives. The depth and table look fine, that''s not a problem, and I''m not sure if the thin girdle is a worry. For radiants, I would try to stay at or higher color than G. I saw an H, and the color bothered me. Radiants tend to hide inclusions pretty well, so you might be able to go to an SI2 even on a stone this large. Here''s some options on the pricescope search that I found:

The second one I linked for some reason was only called a fair cut by both Blue Nile and James Allen, but the numbers look good. If you are interested in this stone, I would have the vendor call it in and look at it for you.

Unfortunately, i know a diamond is forever but i always look to resale. i know a d vvs2 is a diamond which i can bring to anyone in the trade and some immeadiate value for. that being said and after looking at stones side by side the radints do show there color. my thoughts on the d is to mount it with two yeloow side stones.

I think you're referring to investment quality diamonds (diamonds with very high color/clarity). Some here would argue that such a thing doesn't really exist. I am not discouraging you from purchasing a D/VVS stone, but you should know that if you ever plan to sell the stone to the trade you will get SIGNIFICANTLY less than what you paid, whether the diamond is a D/VVS or a G/SI. Diamonds of any color and clarity are not generally good investments.

Here is an excerpt from the tutorial on this site re: "investment quality" diamonds:

"Investment diamonds must be D Flawless or VVS quality”. What rubbish! Rarer diamonds are the hardest for you to sell. Medium quality diamonds (with no visible imperfections or obvious discoloration) are more saleable, and go up in value at a proportional rate to rarer more expensive diamonds."
