Hey everyone,

I've been a lurker on here for quite some time but I thought I would post what I've been up to since I am very excited about it!

The story:

I am a perfectionist at heart and I went searching for the perfect jeweler/designer to design me an e-ring. After many revisions, I still wasn't completely happy and by now I could tell that my jeweler was getting frustrated with the constant back and forth with design changes. I had a vision of what I wanted in my head, and some pretty accurate hand sketches but what he kept coming up with in CAD just didn't match what I had envisioned the ring to look like.

This consumed me! To be honest, I have a tendency when facing a problem to become so overwhelmed with different solutions swimming in my head that I literally lose sleep over it. After about a night of not being able to sleep because I was so concerned about this ring, I finally decided I would design my own. I have seen some beautiful rings but they haven't incorporated everything I've wanted and so I thought I would get to work and do it to myself.

Now obviously my CAD software is not meant for jewelry design but after about 12 hours of working on it, I think I finally nailed the design. I will keep you guys posted on the progress of the e-ring, casting pictures and final product but for now, here is my handy work! I can't wait for the big proposal!

After speaking with my jeweler he advised me he would have to make some changes to various thicknesses of certain features in order to make the ring more durable but I don't expect the design to change all that much.

The CAD looks great! What features of the ring were the jewelers having issues with? Your CAD looks pretty straightforward to me.

your CAD looks nice!

Thank you for the comments.

The issue between my self and my jeweler is that he is not local for me (well not local enough that I can drop in at any moment). As such, a lot of our conversations have been via phone or email. While I sent him pictures of what I wanted, there was nothing I have seen that was similar to the bowl I designed. This was the biggest issue since it is very hard to convey what a 3D object should look like in words.

The beauty of the design is that the e-ring facilitates the addition of a wedding band to fit flush without any interferences. The bowl that was designed by my jeweler was convex in shape and would have hit the wedding band when worn together. I didn't want to have a strange shaped wedding band to avoid the interference issues so I made it a point to design the e-ring with this in mind.

I think it looks great! You did a wonderful job! The only thing I might look at is that the halo part of the ring is a bit high. I think you could lower it a little and still wear a wedding band. Did you read through Frankie's thread about the similar rings she had made? because I am thinking the best version had a slight tilt to the halo. I'll try to find the thread.

Thank you. Yes I did read through that thread and the diamonds around the halo have a 20 degree tilt from the vertical.

The halo looks to sit high however given the dimensions of the other components, including the thicknesses of the prongs and basket restricts the height unfortunately :(. I too would have liked it to be lower. That being said, the highest point of the ring is 5mm from the finger so it's not too bad.

Ah, looks are deceiving because 5mm total height is not bad at all! Can't wait to see the finished ring!
