Hello-
Any advice here would be GREATLY appreciated!
I think(hope) I have a pretty good idea of what ring my girlfriend wants now and now am at the step where I actually buy it. I foudn a custom jeweler in Dallas that several people recommended for creating a Winston micropave type ring setting. Of course, the dealer would like me to also come in and buy his cushion diamond; the problem being I know nothing about buying diamons other than what Ive read in the last week or two.
Would I be better off just buying from a reputable online place like good old gold? Does anyone have any suggestions? I was trying to get at least a 1.5 carat miners cut that would be around 10k.
Thanks so much for any help!

So, you are looking for an Old Mine Cut (OMC)?

I would look at www.oldworlddiamonds.com and jbeg.

Edit
What is your color preference? OMCs are usually lower colors. I just checked OWD and didnt see any online that really fit your
needs so you will need to call.

Jbeg has a 1.66 for $6550 but its an M color. Wouldnt suggest unless your GF knows what lower colors look like and would be
happy with that low.

Thank you very much for the responses and the link to the other discussion about creating the same ring.
tyty333- wow, thanks for taking the time to help. I was thinking I wouldn't go lower than a J for clarity. I really dont know enough about any other aspects to say I could pick out a good diamond. Both of you examples looked great though. I have them bookmarked! I really like the first August Vintage.

OWD doesn't update their online inventory often. You need to call or email them. Personally for any antique cut them and JbEG would be my first choice. The AVC (august vintage) is not antique but cut to look like an old cut....totally different ball game in my opinion.

I would see what you can find online and then compare to what your jeweler can sell you. I'm guessing your jeweler will be much more expensive because he will have to add on additional margin to cover his overhead/ building/ staff etc.

I really would contact Adam at OWD as he does nothing but look at old cuts and have a very large inventory on hand. Just call or email and give him specs with your budget. He will get back with options. I bought my antique cushion from him and his pricing was by far the best, plus he had the most options.
