Hey guys,

I am a total newbie, but doing a search with Solomon Bros produces diamonds that seem way below what others cost on seemingly comparable sites like Blue Nile and White Flash.

http://www.solomonbrothers.com/DiamondSearch.aspx?ColorMin=J&ColorMax=G&ClarityMin=SI2&ClarityMax=VVS2&CutMin=Good&WeightMin=1.00&WeightMax=2.2

Why are these priced so low? Even if the color is a little lower (H and I) and they have some inclusions, a similar stone at BN or WF is still almost double!

What am I missing? Is it because these are EGL certified???

HELP!

Hi Chris

Yes EGL graded diamonds are typically priced considerably lower than GIA or AGS graded stones. Too many examples there to give specifics, but things such as cut quality, vendor benefits and services and various other factors we have no way of knowing in this scenario can greatly influence price. This page explains further.

Gotta say, though, Solomon Brothers seems to have very competitive pricing. I just bought a diamond for them which, as far as I could tell, was priced similarly to stones .30 smaller with the same characteristics otherwise at other companies.

Mini thread jack - Circe - do they have an upgrade policy? I looked and couldnt find anything. Their prices to seem
to be very good. THanks

Thread jack over!

EDIT - fordhamchris - I'd advice to concentrate on their GIA/AGS stones and you should be ok.

Sorry, TyTy, just saw this! According to their rep., they do have an upgrade policy, but I didn''t get any details or specifics. I asked after-the-fact of my purchase, so I didn''t get to many details ... it might be worth checking as an in-progress consumer!
