Solitaire and graduated diamonds by the yard

Hi,

I am a newbie here. I am making a solitaire pendant for my daughter and one for myself, using some stones from my mother. The pieces will have wonderful sentimental value. i’m all set with my daughters necklace, which will feature a stone of 1.61 carats.

on the chain for my pendant, I’m going to have diamonds by the yard, and the jeweler with whom I am working thinks it would be a great idea if we use diamonds of varying sizes put on the chain symmetrically.

I haven’t been able to find any pictures of this. Has anyone done this before, and is it striking or disconcerting?

Thank you!

So like a graduated diamonds by the yard, where the "center" one will be the largest and they go down in size on each side of the largest equally, like mirror image?

Yes, exactly.

I think that could be really pretty but you will want to make sure the clasp stays perfectly centered at the base of your neck. The beauty of the DBTY is sort of like an infinity look. I think both are great, you just need to decide what you want. I personally like the graduated idea... a total refresh on the idea and makes yours looks so much more custom. And I think it will pair well with layering. It’s just a more organic and handcrafted look, not manufactured. I say go for it!

Thank you!

I have always wanted a dbty with random sizes and spacing. I think that would be classic with an edgy vibe.

I think it depends on the size of the center stone and the small stones. I would only want really small stones on a chain with a large main diamond in the center. I have a dbty chain on one of my pendants but the bezeled diamonds are all small and the same size.

This sounds like such a beautiful necklace! Please post any inspiration and final pics!

I’ll say it because it happened to me. The DBTY necklaces look fabulous in photos but when you wear one, every time you look at it the chain has twisted and the diamonds have flipped over and/ or moved out of position. So you are forever straightening it and trying to untwist it to get the diamonds face up..... 10 minutes later.... grrrr...
if you don’t mind the diamonds upside down / the chain moving out of position, no worries, but it drove me beserk!
