I'd like to hear what you are all passionate about. What are the things you are most interested in?

For me: Horses, Nature (especially in relation to animals, I am fascinated with observing wildlife), art (both doing my own, and seeing the work of others), reading just about anything, I love to learn. I love music, there is very little music that I can't find an appreciation for. I really love riding ATV's and it gives me a way to get out IN nature more. Cooking and baking, and I love food. I love to try new foods, and learn to appreciate tastes and different cultures' foods. Of course gemstones, which I think stems back to art and the love of color. Perfumes, and finding ones that I can relate to certain emotions. I also really love memorabilia....especially that handed down to me from family. My aunt gave me a painted egg she got in Europe that is just stunning, and I have an Ivory elephant my great grandmother got while in Africa when she was younger. I love things that have a past...a story to tell.

For me, photography, philosophy (especially metaphysics), religious studies, Eastern philosophies, botantical/natural perfumery (love it), gemstones (of course), movies, contemporary classical music (think film scores--Hans Zimmer, Howard Shore, Klaus Badelt, Clint Mansell, et al.) I'm a big supporter of natural childbirth and OOHB (out of hospital birth). It's a big passion of mine. I've taken up baking and so far I love it, but I don't have a lot of time to devote to it. I like to write and debate.

I forgot to add "studies" to mine. I love history, especially native history. I cultural studies. I also love sciences. I've always been fascinated by astronomy.

Animals: Specifically horses, dogs, and rabbits, though I've been obsessed with all types of animals since I was very small.

Science and Math: I've always loved the sciences - especially chemistry and physics. I love learning new things and I'm lucky to be in a field where I can use some part of these subjects.

Reading: I just love books, especially the classics - I rarely read modern authors. I especially have a passion for 19th century Brit lit and early-mid 20th century American authors.

Food: I love eating! It doesn't have to be fancy, it just has to be good.

Wine: I have a big passion for wine. I love learning more about it and trying different regions. I love reading my Wine Spectator every month and I've even considered going for some more formal classes at a community college (except that it's 45min away :(sad ). I did take a wines class in college which was such a fantastic experience and gave me a great foundation. I'm really focused on Spain right now, but I'd like to focus a little more on southern France next.

Oh gosh thanks.
I'm really an open book here... pianos, classical music, photography, art, politics, religion, diamonds both colorless and colored, hand-knotted rugs, equality, history - I'm really interested in everything but I'm not well-educated at all.
... but actually if we met I'd get you to to dive into YOUR interests.
Favorite composers? Favorite books? Artists? Do you collect the rugs? Do you have interest in the Native American hand knotted rugs? My great grandmother collected them. What type of history?

If you don't mind I'll answer this question from the Kenny-specific thread in this everyone thread.

Bach, Mozart and Chopin both to listen to and play on piano.
Books? I'm ashamed that I don't read much. That's why I'm so stupid.
Artists? Homer, Sargent, Hopper
Rugs, Persian
History - I'm interested in WW2 in Europe, and search Netflix for documentaries and films about it.

Kenny - you are far from Stupid. You seem to be very cultured, open minded and intelligent in a worldly way.

I hope to re learn piano. I played when younger, but have forgotten how to read notes.

I love museums, history, any sort of living history display. I don't read as much as I once did, but I used to be a voracious reader. This has been replaced by driving and roadtrips, there is a lot I wish to see before I get too old to just go and do.

I like to cook, and experiment with food, and I adore perfumes, but the collection must go before I move in with my boyfriend.

I like music, but right now, I am fascinated by podcasts.

reader - Is your boyfriend allergic? If/when you do, you should let me and Lorelei and the other perfume ladies here know. I currently have 20ish bottles?

Travel! Oh my goodness, anything and everything related to travel. I love going new places, I love eating new foods, I love revisiting places and having moments of familiarity juxtaposed with new experiences.

Food. I love eating. Nuff said.

Ultimate frisbee. I don't know how else to explain the amount of time, money, and energy I spend on the sport, but man I love it.

Stories. I love story telling, I love listening to stories, I love writing, and I love reading.

Some of my passions include:

Reading (mostly fiction)

Researching things (fun stuff and academic things. I'd love to be a permanent student, actually.)

Children (I always knew I was meant to do something with children but I swore that I wasn't going to be a teacher. I was wrong - I've been in education now for 10 years.)

Food (This is NOT good for me.)

Traveling (I wish I could do more!)

Movies (I love music but I'm more of a visual person.)

I am passionate about:

reading stories and essays and quotes that bring me to laughter, to tears, or to new understandings
writing so the characters can finally clear out of my mind
teaching people how to read and write so they can experience one small fraction of the joy I've experienced doing both
learning how to do anything new, practicing it until I'm satisfied, and moving on to the next thing
creating beautiful things
traveling to new places and lingering long enough to let them somehow change me
listening and dancing and eating and drinking to live outdoor music
standing up for the underdog, whether human or animal
relaxing with my Sunday paper and a hot mug of coffee
cuddling with the kitties and the pup, especially during a really massive thunderstorm
cudding with my husband any time at all
filling our home with our friends and loved ones to celebrate events big and small
wandering around the Botanic Garden aimlessly and for hours
enjoying a hot summer evening with the Indigo Girls on the lawn of my favorite outdoor music venue
the stillness of a Saturday morning when I'm alone in the house and have nothing to do and nowhere to be for hours
enjoying long conversation with friends I've had for years, and letting the newness of what I learn about them surprise me
discovering a new author that I adore, and learning that she's written ten other books
raucous book club discussions that go on past one in the morning
meeting a fellow educator who cares as much as I do
words I've never seen or heard before
really long bike rides on new paths
homemade beef tamales
dogs with wagging tails
handwritten letters
that look my husband gives me from across a room

These sound like small things, but I pursue them all passionately and purposefully. I have a small life, made up of small things and small experiences, and I like it that way. I could not be happier.

philosophy and theoretical physics - I think about this stuff WAY more than any stay at home suburban mom should... I probably think about it as much as the philosophers and physicists at any university. Once I can kick the the old international mother thing I will become one of those university people thinking way too much about philosophy and physics... with a dash of theology ;)

I LOVE theoretical physics! It's not a passion of mine, but definitely a strong interest!

What good ones have you found? WWII is my favorite piece of history and the only thing I really read about - except for the fact that I'm a sucker for gossip magazines :cheeky:

Flute and music is a huge passion of mine. I was looking forward to starting lessons again with a pro. but the $$$ for my tooth has put that off until next year :(sad My little dogs, Milo and Taz. We like to play hide and go seek in the house. It's great because I only fit into a handful of hiding spots but they can never remember which ones! I watch way too many documentaries on Netflix.
