Interestingly enough ALL the guys are adovcating the ''tell him'' approach. I''m voting that this is one of those instances where the genders have mutual comprehension issues, and so therefore you should follow their advice. Tactfully of course!

I say break the news to the guy. If it were me, it''d be "Just a pair of earrings. Educate me in the way of the diamond and let''s go get you something you REALLY like."

I normally recommend telling them so the item can be returned, but she said in the first post that it had been a month since she was given them. You aren''t going to find many jewelry stores that carry ideal cut earrings, so my view is that if it''s too late to return them and start over and order online, I''d forget it and get some better ones next year.
