It is pretty sad that he/she would kill for that problem.
They can easily let the cat become a outdoor cat and build a cat house in the yard or something.

I would have taken it to a second-chance shelter. Maybe this cat was acting out of frustration, and the frustration had its roots in the family it lived with.

That makes me so sad. I don''t understand how someone could do that.

Agreed 100%! Actually, I don''t understand the point of this article - the author is clearly just making excuses and rationalizing the situation to make herself feel better. This poor cat would have at least had a chance in a shelter. I used to volunteer for a no-kill shelter and people do adopt cats with problems like this... often it is simply a matter of a change of environment and the issues disappear (i.e. new environment outdoors w/ lots of land; no children/other pets in the picture).

As a cat lover, I can tell from the comments on here, that I don''t even want to read the article....

My parents put "my" (the one I'd been most attached to before I left for college) cat down a few years ago for the same reason. I was so hurt and upset by that--I personally think that euthanasia should be reserved for a very ill pet who is suffering a great deal, to spare them pain. But because they cannot be taught good potty habits? It just makes me so sad.

My poor kitty. I miss her still. They didn't even give me the chance to say that I would take here out here--and I would have in a heartbeat. They just called one morning to say "I thought you should know..."

Some "people" are just heartless mutant scum. A friend of mine told me that someone brought a beautiful Persian cat to her veterinarian and said "Put him to sleep, I don''t want him any more" and walked out. This was a show cat who committed the crime of never winning a ribbon at any show. The vet had no intention of putting the cat down and adopted him out to a loving family. I wish there could be more happy endings like that.
