We are looking to get around a 1ct asscher, which I thought would be fine as far as size. Well lately I have been thinking it will look too small (my ring size is 6

and I think I have been spending too much time on PS

) and have been looking at halo rings again. My boyfriend isn''t a huge fan of the style though. He thinks they are gaudy, but he likes some of the smaller halos. He basically doesn''t want it to take away from the diamond. What is the smallest width you can have on a halo and what would look right with a 1ct asscher? Is 1-1.5mm too small structurally?

IMO halo width doesn''t affect structure as much as band width ... you could use smaller melee in the halo, but slightly larger for the band (Leon Mege does this ALOT)

For what it is worth, my FI thought that an asscher with a halo would look gaudy too. Those were his exact words, actually...but he realized that I''d be the one wearing the ring so he basically let me do what I want.

I love my halo and my FI has admitted that he thinks it is pretty amazing too.

My stone is 1.57 Carats and with my halo it measures about 10.5 mm. I don''t think it looks big and I don''t think that the halo does anything to take away from the diamond...

Here is a pic...don''t know if it will give you a frame of reference...

Funny my boy hated the halo too, until he saw one in person.

Honestly, I''ve gone back and forth on the halo issue. I like it sometimes, and others not. Lately, to me, the halo detracts from the actual size of the center stone. One of my friends said "It''s a big stone but the setting is really bulky so the stone looks smaller then it actaully is." A lot of people have a hard time telling what size my center stone actually is....even in jewelery stores, people are somewhat taken aback that it is 1.3 carats.

A small halo is good, but the stones fell out of mine

, so I wasn''t too thrilled. My FAVE approximately 1 ct asscher in a halo is Kaleigh''s right hand ring. It''s got awesome proportions..

I have a .90 carat RB and a halo with 1 pointers. It does not look gaudy at all...it just makes a nice little frame around my center diamond. I measured the width of the whole halo and it is about 9 mm (my RB is 6 mm), so it looks like a 3 carat diamond! I love it, and so does my fiance (and he thought it would look gaudy too).

When I first showed my fiance halos on here he thought they were so ''ugly.'' LOL When he saw one in person he actually really liked them. I think its because everything online is magnified. My Jubilee is 6.06x6.07 and with the halo will be 10.75 mm. I think it''ll look great and can''t wait to see it!

Btw the melee in the halo will be 1.3mm. I think a halo will look great around an asscher just see Kaleigh''s!!

On the other hand...you have to make sure you don''t do halo overkill

(like my term of art?). I saw the ugliest halo on a girl that works at the salon I go to..it had 3 bands and a small center asscher (had to be .5 ct or less) with two trapezoids and halos around those.

The end result I didn''t think the halos and extra bands helped the diamonds look any bigger but rather took away from the stones.

There seem to be quite a few different ways to construct these halo rings, so... I wouldn''t worry about durability - chances are anything can be done one way or another since the width of the halo is only one detail and other elements could be adjusted to match etc.

I wonder what are the dimensions of this Ritani ring (LINK) - with a half carat asscher cut. The stone can''t be that spready and the frame around the diamond seems incredibly dainty.

The description says that the paved diamonds are 30 pts total! This would mean each is about half a point - definitely ''micro pave'' in my book.
