On my elusive search to find the perfect heart shaped diamond, I have come across this stone:

Shape: HT
Carat Weight: 2.01
Length to Width: 8.17 x 8.19 x 5.11 mm
Depth: 62.4 %
Table: 60 %
Girdle: MED - VT
Culet: S
Polish: VG
Symmetry: G
Clarity: VS2
Color: F
Fluorescence: NON

According to the AGA tables it is an ideal cut. So my question is, how does a small culet, versus very small or no culet, effect the sparkle of the stone?

A small culet is, indeed, small and visible only with a loupe. It's no big deal at all. In fact, some believe that a small or medium culet is a good choice because it gives some extra protection from culet chipping.

The most important things in heart shaped diamonds are the presence of a more or less noticeable 'bow-tie' effect , the shape and the symmetry. You can have a stone graded as 'good' in symmetry where one lobe is slightly larger than the other. It's a very disturbing effect and I'd make sure that the two lobes are fairly equal in dimensions.

I'd also ask for a pic so that you could get an idea of the shape... Some hearts have very deep clefts and are not aesthetically pleasant, and you want to avoid that.

Shouldn't notice any sparkle difference between those.
