There is a YouTube video I think gog did where they compared the lower girdle facet length of several different lengths and you can see how that changes the width of the arrows. Pretty cool to this noob to see how one dimension changes the look of a diamond. I also like the fatter ones too.

Fatter. I had a diamond with perfect H&A's but they were thin. I did not keep that stone.

I like the skinny arrows, for all the light it throws back up at you.

OP,
So which do you prefer?

I personally like fat arrows.... But I like OEC stones a lot, too. That may have something to do with it. :eh:

Personally, I love dispersion in a diamond.

In order for a diamond to show you dispersion, the ray of light that is dispersed must be wider where it intercepts the pupil of your eye than the pupil. If not, all of the colors enter the pupil and are discerned as white light. If one or both ends of the ray are clipped, then only part of the colors enter the eye, and are perceived as such.

The larger the virtual facet that is reflecting the light, the more opportunity there is for the dispersed rays of light to be dispersed enough for you to perceive the colors, or fire as it is often called. So, while the narrow arrows will return a lot of white flashes to you, they will normally also return less dispersion or fire to you, depending on many factors, such as the width of the table and the crown angle.

Thus, for me, provided that all of the angles are in proper balance, yada, yada, yada, I generally prefer the wider arrows for their larger flashes of both white and colored light.
