Would you choose a 2.89 E SI1 or a 3.13. H VS2. Both have nice shape (Ovals). The 2.89 has 59% depth and 62% table and is 11.35x8.21. The 3.13 has 60% depth and 58% table and is 11.58x8.35. So not much different in dimensions. But, I kinda had my heart set on 3 carats. Thoughts?

Hi Love and welcome!

I wouldn''t choose either without at least images if these are for sale online, there isn''t enough information to make an informed decision on either going by the basic numbers....Or have you seen them in person in a jewellery store? Are they both GIA graded?

Yes they are both GIA and yes, I have seen images. When I look at them together, of course the E looks far brighter. But, I''ve had an H before (2 carat emerald) and it appeared colorless on the finger. So, I wonder if the H will be fine when standing alone.

Can you post the images here please and do you have an ASET image? These are most useful for judging fancy shapes. I take it you have also seen these in person? If you are comparing the colours using images then that isn't a reliable way to judge.

An oval of 3 carats in H colour will still be white but a softer white to an E colour.

Posting them would be great. We''re not just looking for whiteness, but also brilliance and fire. One might be significantly more bright and lively than the other.

Assuming both have impeccable images, I''d go for the H. My E stone is nice, but is a bit of an overkill. The white brightness almost makes it look unreal compared to my G.

Here is the 2.89 E SI1.

Its hard to give you any meaningful info from photos but having said that they both look good. From the info we have, I like the look of the second one best. Did the vendor tell you if either stone shows much in the way of a bow tie? Its hard to judge this from static images as bow ties can show to differently according to the angle of the stone. Can the vendor also get the crown height from a Sarin scan for each oval too please and can you get ASET images of each?

Not a big enough size difference in my opinion to compensate for the tint in the H that I see in the photo.

I am no oval expert, but those both seem to have strong bowties.

I also see significant bow ties in both. The E color looks much nicer than the H.
