Which would you prefer to receive:

1) 1.7-1.8 ct D, VS1/VS2, Ex cut

2) 2.2 ct G, VS2, Ex cut

I prefer the D color, however I''m not sure if my future fiance would rather have the lower color and larger stone. She wants the Christopher Design halo so I''m also concerned the larger stone with the halo would be too much for her finger - she is just under a size 5.

I would prefer the D over the G. Both caret weights are big.

G. I think there's a very visible size difference between a 1.7 and a 2.2 - esp. side by side, and that would be enough to sway me!

In a halo, though, that extra bit of spread would make hardly any visible difference, so..

i''ll take the G VS2.

Personally, I''d go for the D. The G may be overwhelming with the halo and the D may be just right for her finger size. Plus, do you know if she''s color sensitive? I have a D and I was color sensitive at G, but some are more sensitive than others.

I think if you want to halo it the smaller stone is better. I have tried on 2.2ct diamonds and they are biiiiig and adding a hlo would be even bigger! Only a woman who loves the bling can rock that look!

G is blindingly white in my book. I mean you''re not talking about J or K. I personally prefer L, M, N, and O.

I know G is not D, E, or F, but it''s pretty close.

I''d choose size in this case.

Between a D and G (all other things being equal?)... G and cost savings or larger stone everytime. But for a halo setting I'd go for a G color stone the same size as the D you are looking at and save the money. A 1.7 Round brilliant stone in a halo is going to be big enough I think.

G color is great!

I''d go for the D - just my personal preference.

I would go for the G because a G is still very very white and super desirable and I like big....however I wouldnt go lower than G in exchange for size.

Yes, even better.

They're both big. Still, I'd go for the bigger one. All people can see size, not everyone can see color. Nothing wrong wth G. Forgot she wants the halo.

Since she'll be wearing it for the rest of her life, why not ask her.

G. Very white, and has the ''magic'' of being able to say you have a 2 carat stone.

Hmmmmmmmmm..........lets see what the conversation may be like when she shows it to her girlfriends.

Option 1: " It is under 2 carats"

or

Option 2: "Its over 2 carats"

Which one do you think she would like to say?

There is your answer.

G. For sure. Also look at the mm measurements of the stone - so you can judge the EXACT size difference.

If I was to get a diamond, I would PREFER it to be the G (not due to the larger size though - more due to the colour!) but if you are going to halo it I would go with the D personally. I am not a halo person, but if it was to be haloed, I would actually want to go smaller than that even as I don''t like a lot of finger coverage on my smaller hand/fingers - prefer a bit more sleek and simple.

I find that is not the usual case around here though and some women love to rock their large 2ct halos! And I am of course also not your girlfriend ;) Have you asked her what she would prefer - i.e. does she have a certain carat weight in mind, has she tried on the halo with you around and shared what she likes/does not like?

the G, but if you are halo-ing I''d go with a smaller size.

I''d prefer the G in a solitare personally.

Colour gets much easier to notice as the diamond gets larger. 2ct is a big stone.

It also seems to get easier to tell one colour from the next as you go down the scale.
For example.......
If you put a mounted D and a mounted F in front of me, I'd struggle to tell the difference.
But put a mounted F and a mounted H in front of me (still only two colour grades apart) and I could tell you which was the H in a matter of seconds.

Normally, I'd stay F or higher, but when there's a major carat boundary within reach, I'll bend a little and lean towards the G.

You can find a 1.8ct D and a 2.2ct G within your budget.
I would have thought that a 2.0ct F would be within budget and would be an altogether better option, since it would reach the carat milestone and would be a safer grade of "colourless".

Have you seen these stones? On paper it may not seem like a big difference between color grades but in person it may be more apparent. I think color becomes a bigger factor the bigger the stone is. That said, I think most people think G is a very acceptable color. I think you have to trust your own eyes.

I say G AND go for the halo!

Thanks for the great advice. It would be nice to hit the 2ct milestone, however I am slightly worried it would be too flashy with the halo. I haven''t asked her on size, but I imagine she would be happy with either. A 2ct F is a good compromise though. The more I learn and see the more I go in circles

My preference would be for the smaller stone because I''m into smaller diamonds. Even a 1.7 with a halo would be uncomfortable *for me*. Comparing the two stones, I would go for the 1.7 in a G color rather than a D because you''re paying so much more for the D and that''s unnecessarily white. By saving money, you could also get a nice pair of studs to go with a 1.7 ct G diamond.

The bigger G for sure!

In a halo, I would prefer the smaller stone. A 2 carat F also sounds like a great compromise if you think hitting the 2 carat mark would be meaningful to her.

G with a halo.

I''m a size 5 and I have a 1.04 oval with a halo and there''s still room on my finger.

2cts w/ halo will be an unforgettable e-ring and unless she''s color sensitive, it doesn''t even matter that it''s a G.
