Survey: Size matters in engagement rings
MARCH 01, 2005 - New York -- When it comes to diamond engagement rings, most buyers prefer their stones as large as possible, reports the 2003 Bridal Fine Jewelry Consumer Buying Survey, reflecting the study's most current results.
More than 40 percent of survey respondents said they planned to spend $2,000 or more for an engagement diamond larger than 1 carat. A full 25 percent of those polled intended to pay a minimum of $5,000 to get what they wanted.
But size was not the sole determining factor in making a diamond-buying decision, respondents said. A third of those surveyed said that cut was their most important consideration in choosing a diamond.
