Hi

Does anyone has the experience of having their beloved diamond ring resized and/or reset in Singapore? Care to share who/where you would recommend for others to go for resizing/resetting?

Care to also share some of the risks involved, such as chipped stones, crappy craftsmanship etc.?

Thanks!!

Most reputable jeweller in Singapore will resize reset.

One of the biggest risk is the possibility of you beloved diamond being switched/swapped.

Take a walk around plenty of jewellry workshop too. Some charges really cheap pricing others are out to let your blood.

If you do a check, there was a forummer here who was totally unsatisfied with a goldsmith recommended by another forum mate here. I''m sure the latter introduced because he/she finds their service good. Alas, one man''s meat is another man''s poison...

I set my wife e-ring at Caratell Jeweller, very please with the workmanship but definitely not cheap. Set a fancy topaz ring at small jewellery workshop at chinatown, really good price but workmanship aint that fine. But then again, resizing aint a complex piece of work.

So unless your diamond is laser inscripted for identification or you have absolute trust in the goldsmith, pay a bit more go for a reputable place.

With regards to the person and his experience, I reckon that both parties were at fault but he was rather unreasonable and unrealistic with his expectations. He gave them a limited time to work with the ring and expected it to look exactly like the Lee Hwa Destinee setting. They told him that it would not be able to look exactly like what he wanted but he insisted they go ahead and try. He was also unfair when he posted his unhappiness with them and didn''t post again to let us know that his problem was recitified, with a new setting, free of charge. He also neglected to mention that he recommended a friend to them who had absolutely no problems with his setting. Oh well, it''s personal choice who one wants to go to and everyone has their off days.

Hi danielksc,

If you purchased your diamond ring in Singapore, it should not be a problem at all to bring it back to your retailer and get them to re-size or re-set your ring.

I would not recommend for you to simply walk to any goldsmith and do this. This is because you have no prior dealings with these goldsmiths, and do not know how they work and what quality their work is like.

Without knowledge of their quality and price, how do you go about entrusting your jewelry? Who will help you ensure quality control or help you rectify mistakes?

I think it is better for you to have peace of mind, and entrust your ring to your original retailer to resize and reset. Saving a few tens of dollars is not worth the hassle and heartache of a ring poorly re-worked.

Best regards,
Stephen Tan
