Hi,

As it turns out, it''s time for me to buy a diamond and a ring. I''m looking at a cute little 5mm August vinatage cushion from good old gold, and trying to figure out which setting would be best. I''m looking for a simple solitaire, as low set as possible, without pave or side stones. I want it to be easy to clean, and sturdy for everyday wear, but dianty enough that the setting doesn''t overwhelm the stone. I''ve been considering a Mark Morrell 4 prong setting (if he makes them now but it might be a little out of budget. I''m also considering settings by Singlestone, but I''m not sure if I could afford it. My target budget is about $1000.

Any suggestions would be most helpful.

Thank you!!!

I guess I should clarify that I hope to simplify things by having GOG set the stone as well.

Dreamer_d - nice choices - I like the Grace quite a bit.

it looks a bit tall, but maybe not so much in person?

Dawnabee - I think the trellis is a bit thick, but it is fairly simple and within budget

keep 'em coming!

I like that the sides taper in towards the center which will make the center stone pop more! Also, keep in mind that you can request that the vendor set the head lower if you think it is too high.

Best of luck!

Don''t let this limit you too much. You can get insurance through Jewelers Mutual to cover the stone during the setting process and it does not cost much for a year of coverage

Leagally spoiled - Nice find! it''s definitely going on my top 10 list.

Dreamer_D - This is my first major diamond purchase and I''m nervous and a little overwhelmed with all the details, so I''m hoping to keep the transaction as simple as possible. I''m in Canada which further complicates matters. I''m sure I''ll be mixing vendors for future projects, but for this first one I''m trying to streamline the process.

I went to try on settings today and discovered that settings with thinnner bands (around 2mm) look better on my narrow fingers. I was surprised at how tall and spiky most peg-head settings seem to be. I also tried on platinum for the first time - wow! weighty stuff! I discovered I like low settings similar to Sonomacounty''s setting - I can Identify the double claw prongs easily enough, but what is that type of ring called? Do you think this stye of ring, in platinum with a 2mm shank would be structurally feasable? I''m not sure I want the double claw prongs either - do you think single claw prongs would look better on a smaller stone?

Thanks again for any help or suggestions.
