Hey All,

I am new here, I have been looking through the forums for quite sometime to get ideas on what to buy the girl I love, and how to propose to her.

I have finally decided (or so I think) on what I am getting her. The band is a Simon G band, that I found at my local jeweler that I have known my whole life. I hope she thinks it is as beautiful as I do. I have changed a few things about it since they had to custom make one for her tiny (4 1/2) finger. I am making the entire ring white gold, instead of the yellow gold design in the pictures below. Also, the ring is made for a 1 ct center stone, but I wanted to get a little larger stone. I had my jeweler search for a few different loose stones to bring in. I found a 1.31 ct, SI2 clarity (no visible inclusions), VG cut, H color, Medium Blue fluorescence stone that I think may be the "one".

Anyways, without rambling on more, I just wanted to get some of your opinions on the band and center stone choice (especially you ladies out there). My stomach has been in knots for the past couple months, as this is the most important decision I have ever had to make.

Thanks,

Chris

P.S. I hope I can figure out how to post pics!

I think it''s very pretty and think your idea of changing the whole thing to WG is a good one.

I completely agree! It''s very lovely. And the size stone you''re considering is such a great size!

I think she will!

I think it's a lovely ring!

i think the ring is very pretty. i esp like the profile view.

Nice job, Chris! That setting is lovely. Impressive considering you selected it yourself. I love the split shank and detailing ... When the job is done, I''m sure that even you will be amazed at the level of artisanship.

Unlike most, I like the yellow gold filagree as my own engagement ring will be a Simon G setting with yellow gold filagree detail as well ... I guess I''m biased.

With regards to your diamond, it''s a great size! If, however, you are still looking, as implied in your post, you may want to inquire with your jeweler if she is able to bring in any Ideal or Excellent cut diamonds so that you can compare those against the one that she has already selected? You will likely find that the diamonds with a better cut will sparkle more and, if so, this may be something you might want to pursue further.

Wow if she doesn''t like it I''ll take it! It''s wonderful! Thanks for all the pictures!

Simon G makes beautiful jewelry and I think that setting you''ve chosen is simply stunning! How could she not like that gorgeous ring and as others have noted the diamond is a terrific size.

Wow, it is beautiful! I love the uniqueness to it! Gorgeous!

I think it''s pretty, but you might want to ask her friends and relatives to get a better idea of her style.

i think shes going to LoOoOovVvVvE it! you did a great job!

is that a seperate band or is it a split shanklike setting...or i may just be blind....

Lovely!

Absolutely wonderful! Job well done!!!

Beautiful ring. I like the YG as well, but I think it will look just as stunning without. I am sure that it will be just lovely once it is all finished!

It is a split shank setting.

Thanks everyone for your comments, it definitely makes me feel better about my decision when I have opinions from more people than just the jeweler.

I will post hand shots of the finished product after the big day (tentatively Mar. 8th)

It''s very pretty, C.Howard, and I can tell you''ve put a lot of meaningful time and love into it. I know she will love it.

BTW - Welcome to PS!

Beautiful! Does it have a matching wedding band? I hope so because I think you would need to get one that matched in this case.

Thanks!! Yes it does indeed have a matching wedding band that my jeweler told me about, so after I pay off the e-ring, I will probably have it made before they discontinue it or something awful like that.

Update: Ok well, it is getting down to the wire. The ring has been finished by the almighty Simon G, and it should be here Monday or Tuesday. My heart is already pounding to see the finished product.

So, the only thing left is, well, the most important part....the DIAMOND! This has probably been killing me the most.

I hate to read stuff on the internet that contradicts my jeweler and others, but it is so easy to be persuaded. I need you gals more than ever with this one.

Once again the diamond I have chosen is a GIA Certified 1.31ct, SI2 (super eye clean), Very Good cut, H color, and Medium blue fluorescence for $7,100. That is what I am mainly tossing and turning over. So many sites say medium+ FL can make diamonds look hazy or oily and should be sold at a discount. My jeweler says the complete opposite, saying that the med. blue FL will make it basically look like a G color and will not look oily at all. I have known my jeweler for a long time and can trust them (I would hope). From what i see in the store, the diamond sparkles like crazy, but I know they have super white lighting to make everything beautiful.

Ladies ladies, give me your wisdom you have that put the beautiful sparklers on your fingers. I am young (only 23) and very new to the "diamond game". I just want my girl to have the gorgeous e-ring that she deserves.

Have you seen the diamond in person? Does it look good to you? Some people rather have flour. in their diamonds. It is a matter of personal preferences IMHO.

wow, that is very pretty setting! It''s unique in a good way. I agree w/ having it all white gold.

The diamond looks spectacular to me in the jewelry store, I honestly couldnt tell it from a EX cut G VS2 that he compared it with (couldnt justify the price difference either). I am just worried that out in natural daylight or anywhere else besides the jewelry store lighting for that matter, it may look different.

Maybe I am being overly paranoid though

ETA Our posts crossed, sorry.

Forgive me for suggesting the obvious...but did he show you a comparison of a non flo stone?

I found in my experience that my flo stone faced up much whiter than the color grade it was-3 higher actually. I was shocked when the jeweler wisked me into his office and stood close to me and turned off his lights...pitch black
(I thought this is going bad real fast
32.gif
...freaked me out!!)

...he did this so my eyes would recalibrate to his lights...and then he flipped on a black light thingy (still freaky...OK what is going on here). Oh I see what we are doing...my stone was BLUE! I was shocked but at the same time I thought it was really cool. Then he reached for a non flo stone...and we played there in the 70's mood light with all sorts of stones. Then we went into the showroom and compared them...and then out to the sunlight. I thought I could see more blue shades in my stone in the fire it let out-than the non flo stone I met in the dark.

And I left very satisfied that I understood the dreaded flo better. It will show up blue in club lighting...which is no problem for me because the clubs I am a member of use the good old fashioned fluorescent lighting...you know Sams club...Costco etc.

The ring choice is really lovely. Would you provide the measurements and specs of your stone. The pros here can be more objective on the stone as a whole...with that information. AS apposed to supporting your making a decision on the flo issue only.

I have an F colored diamond with medium blue fluoro and it looks just fine. There is no hint of a cloudy or oily appearance under any lighting conditions. I think that can happen with some stones but I believe that it is fairly rare. If you have seen the stone in person I wouldn''t worry.

Then you answered you own question. It is *normal* to have doubt over this expensive purchase! I am sure your jeweler would let you see it outside if you asked.

Great settting congrats!
I agree with Tacori - ask you jeweler to take the stone outside so you can see it in natural/daylight sunlight.

Congrats! Please be sure to post pictures of the finished product!

I love blue. fluor. in a diamond. it''s really strong blue in higher colors D-E that *might* have a hazy appearance. sounds like your trusted jeweler is telling you the truth. I bet the stone is gorgous and in the setting..the ring will be a knock out.
