TL-I really appreciate your comments . I have learned so much from your forums and post. I was so apprehensive about posting this because I know how you love spinels and I didn't want to fall short. I was on pins and needles awaiting your post because you are so very honest, no holds barred and extremely knowledgable. I hope im not being offensive to you by saying this. I truly hold your comments in high regard!!!!! Thank you very much TL!!!TL|1307150844|2937375 said:Nice shots, and I love the cutting on the spinel. You can tell it has nice luster and brilliance. Well done! Very pretty ring.

Thank you jstar! I was looking for the smaller diamonds because of the size of this gem. Didn't want the spinel to feel suffocated. I wanted it to breath freely and be relaxed. You are right about the vendor photo. I took a gamble. His photo didn't show the array of colors in the gem.jstarfireb|1307166357|2937509 said:Gorgeous ring! The halo is just delicate enough to complement the larger stone. I love the color, and I think it's much nicer in your pics than the vendor's.

Actually, there are a few gemstones with a higher RI than spinel and some higher than diamond, like sphene, demantoid, natural rutile, sphalerite, cerrusite, but they are really too soft for jewelry wear. Spinel is great in the fact that while it's still dispersive (in the violet and lavender hues), it is very durable and hard. I also like that your stone appears to have a nice crown, (can't see the profile view, but would love to see that too), which helps with the dispersion and brillance. Congratulations on what is a wonderful and well thought out project. Spinels can be addicting, I must warn you!!ZestfullyBling|1307191311|2937602 said:Its one thing to read and research that spinels have the highest refractive index than any natural gemstone, being closest to the diamond. Its another thing to actually SEE it!! Kind of mind boggling!!
