Hello, all. I have been researching for a diamond for about 4 months with my bf and came across this site. I have been reading posts and searching the forums looking for great advice and I know that I will get some here!

I know others have purchased and really liked engagement settings from signed pieces. As far as settings go, I am looking for something feminine, sparkly, a little dainty, and just plain perfect for my hand. I am considering the following setting:

As my bf and I are graduate students, we do not have a ton of money to spend but we definately have a good budget.

I believe we have decided on a RB center stone just under 1.00 (.85-.99). Other details are not important for this particular question (although the stone will be ideal cut f-h in clarity, 55 table etc).

Do you all think that this setting would look nice with a diamond around that size? I do not want a large diamond, I just want a good size that fits the setting I am considering. Would an even smaller diamond look slightly overpowered in a totally diamondy setting?

Also, if anyone has any pictures of this (that they have purchased) please show me some pictures. I am open to comments and suggestions.

Thank you all!

Do a search on shared prong settings, you will find a ton of info and pictures!

hey thanks!

Sure, a 2.2 mm band would be fine with a .85-99. I saw a similar setting to this today from one of the really good jewelers around here:

Go to Collection, Bridal, Engagement Rings, page 3. The third setting is pictured with a 1 ct. stone and it looks very nice.

Thanks,

I just want to make sure the center stone is the center stone...because I am not going with such a large stone I was a bit hesitant to pick a setting with so much sparkle. I have been reading up on some problems with a shared prong setting. Is that only with a wband or what?!!?!

If you go with a shared prong wedding band you can have problems although I believe SP has resolved this issue. You just don''t want to have diamonds rubbing against each other. Call SP and ask Isaac. He should be able to answer your questions. Let us know what he says, it will be helpful to other members as well. Good luck!!!

I was just wondering what the general opinion of the setting I mentioned. Do people find this setting attractive, feminine, and will it have lots of sparkle or not too much. I feel like the diamonds are so small in the band it wn''t be over the top. I barely ever wear jewely but I know that I want a nice engagement ring with a beautiful setting. If anyone has more suggestions about different settings that are similar but they prefer I would also like to hear about those.

I think the setting is my top choice but I am still fond of other settings (ritani) that I definately can''t afford (maybe later in life) so I am looking for a good deal nice quality reputable service and a fabulous ring!

what center stone would be ideal for this setting? I know lots of PSers love very large diamonds but keep in mind I am not a jewelry girl and I am from the very midwest (diamonds tend to be smaller) as I said before we are looking at .85.99 which would be above average where I am from (certainly not HUGE though).

We spoke to the signed pieces people today as well and they said they don''t make the settings in 1/4 sizes (my ring size is 4 and 3/4) and they mentioned an insert...is this odd? Can it be removed later if my fingers get fatter over time? Are sizing beads better? What is the difference? Or should I suck it up and get a 5 and have it a little bit too loose? I am not sure how
much ring sizing costs but is it possible to buy from SP have it s

ent to WF for my diamond and resized there?

Thanks again for all of your comments and help I really appreciate it!

Midgirl,

It''s a gorgeous setting and I highly doubt you''d be disappointed. A .85-.99ct stone (or smaller, as you mentioned, something like .75?) will look perfect in it.

Have you found "the" diamond yet?

We now "the specs" we are looking for. However, talking about quality issues with the diamond (which I have done incessently) is the only part of the diamond process that I am allowed to be a part of. The actual stone will be what we have discussed over the past four months but he wants to be the only person who gets "the diamond"

After researching on pscope for 4 months we feel confident about the numbers of a stunning eyeclean dimaond. He has spent literally hours and hours reading learning. He knew quite a bit to begin with (he said he would "never"buy from a mall store b/c of the markup and the often lack of information). He knew about the 4 cuts and a few other key things but now he feels like he knows exactly what to buy! THANK TO PSCOPE!

Oringinally we were going to go with a 1.-1.1 stone. G color VS2 (other specs on the dot) in the cheapest platinum solitaire setting we could get.

Now we want to get a smaller stone .85-.99 (most likely more like .9) have decided on a g-h or even possibly i, eye clean SI1 and with the rest of the budget I am getting the signed pieces setting that I adore. I just WISH I could see it in person, ya know?

I now a lot of people would rather have the biggest center stone but for some reason I like the setting, I hope it is great!

Thanks all

if it makes you feel any better, not everyone goes for the bigger center stone. I sacrified size for color/clarity - I wanted to have a close to ''perfect'' as nature makes and I can afford and am perfectly happy with getting not-as-large a stone in the process :O)

I think your setting is lovely!! and I''m sure you''ll love it when you see it in person!
