I am so sorry, I said a prayer for you and your family last night...and I hope you all can find comfort during this painful time knowing you sweet pet is no longer in pain, but rather at peace.
I am sure you children will be heartbroken tonight. It''s so hard for them to understand that sometimes doing the right thing means doing the hardest thing in the world. But kids are braver than we give them credit for sometimes, and I am hopeful that they will rebound quickly.
When the time is right, perhaps a lovely family outting to pick out a new kitten will be a way of helping them move on. My husband and I did this with our niece when they had to put her cat down...it months later, but she finally expressed the interest in wanting a new "mke" my husband suggested we take her. We went to the shelter instead of a pet store, and let the people tell her stories about why these cats were there, and how adopting one was a big responsibility. It was good for her in many ways, but she has learned a lot about love from the experience of loss and then adoption.
Just a thought.
