SI2 Concerns

Should I be concerned about the rather large feather on this 1.02 diamond? It has everything I was looking for except that SI2 flaw. It is a Hearts and Arrow Ideal Cut with a certificate by AGS. Diamond looks clean otherwise. Do you think it will be eye clean? How much would you value this diamond at?

You cannot tell if a stone is eye-clean from any image. Ask JA if it is eye-clean and maybe ask the gemologist to comment on it and if it will be a risk.

Ditto-ask JA if it is eyeclean (and specify what eye clean means to you).

This.

Can''t comment on visibility or durability from the plot or pictures.

Thanks for the replies. I emailed and received a call right away from JA. The person I spoke with said it''s very hard to see since it''s well within the table and I would have to view it at certain angles to see it. He also said there''s very little structural concerns and that the flaw can be hidden under a prong. I''m a bit wary because there''s no way this guy had the diamond right in front of him when he called me, right? I guess we''ll see...
So regardless, is $5390 a good deal for a diamond of this quality?

JA has a generous return policy - sounds like you like the stone, why not have it shipped out and take a look in person and have it appraised? That will answer all your questions one way or another.

I'm really not crazy about the inclusion if it's going to be noticeable. I guess I liked the price more than anything else and now I feel a little guilty about it. Money's tight but I can probably budget up to $10,000 yet the practical side of me tells me to save that money for the wedding. I really don't know much about diamonds and I went the easy route and bought the daily diamond recommended on thetruthaboutdiamonds site. I'd really like to hear some honest opinions on this diamond.

if you''re really worried about SI2, you could start looking for G/H SI stones in your budget?

Ditto this.

Is this an engagement diamond? Does the intended wearer have any preferences about size or inclusions/color that you want to take into account?
