SI1 - VS2 I colour Comparison, Can you see the difference?

I'm upgrading my 1ct RB cut VS2 I diamond solitaire to a 1.61ct SI1 H&A I colour. I'm a tad bit nervous while my ring is getting re-set with my jeweller if I'm going to be satisfied with the clarity of my new stone. The colour is remaining the same (I colour) I've just downgraded on the clarity to get a bigger stone. My jeweller said the stone is an excellent stone for the price. Will there be any big differences with the clarity (ie: cloudy or white) compared to my VS2?

Here are some shots. My new diamond is the furthest one to the left of the 3 stones. That's my 1ct ering btw.
Sorry the pics are far away shots.

HOney, what lab graded these diamonds? And what is the cut quality? Honestly, looking at these images, the least concern I have is clarity -- which does not affect appearance the way you are thinking anyways. I want you to focus on cut quality first and foremost!

E.G.L Laboratory graded these. I have the diamond grading information for the upgrade stone I purchased. It reads 1.61 ct SI1 I colour, Cut grade: Ideal H&A dimensions are 7.50 - 7.47 x 4.69 mm. Thoughts?!?!

I think you are going to have yikes moment when the experts respond- but how can EGL list H&A, aren't those branded stones by places who don't submit to EGL for certifying?

Is your original e-ring stone graded by EGL? I ask because EGL is known for being 'off' by multiple grades, both in color and clarity, so your I SI1 could be more like a K I1 if graded by GIA or AGS. This makes comparing EGL stones difficult, either with other EGL-graded stones, or with GIA or AGS graded diamonds.

Are you within a return period for your upgrade diamonds? I would not recomment EGL as a lab because they are not reputable in their grading and consumers usually/always end up overpaying. From those photos it looks like the stones are much more tinted than I would expect for I color reliably graded by GIA or AGS, which is why I asked, and which is typical for EGL unfortunately.. And that is just one problem with EGL. Another is their cut grading is also unreliable. From the photos it looks like those are unlikely to be ideally proportioned H&A stones :blackeye: I think you can do better for your hard earned money!

You have posted in Show Me the Bling which is more for showing off photos of jewlery you own!

jrich Labeling a cut a "H&A" is not proprietary, and EGL uses that as a cut grade. It is not a reliable label in that case.

Thank you Dreamer, very good to know!!! Thanks for all your great help here!

EGL international labs are less strict on grading. It's best to go with a GIA or AGS or EGL USA report as they grade stricter and therefore you get an accurate description of your stone. Personally, I would put your upgrade on hold and wait until some others respond here. In the meantime start reading on Rocky Talky maybe and do a search for EGL certified diamonds on pricescope. Your stone may be well cut if it's says it's a H and A, but who knows what the clarity and color are. Also the angles aren't as exact on the EGL international certs. I got a EGL international diamond graded an H and it was an M from a GIA GG appraiser. Good luck.

Thanks ladies for all of your insight on EGL Labs. That's very disappointing to know they aren't reputable. The 1.61 ct looks like it was graded by EGL but my jeweler is going to be getting it appraised before I pick it up from GS Labs here in Toronto so hopefully it wont disappoint. I've been dealing with the same wholesale jeweler for the past 8 years, he's amazing and has never sold me less grade diamonds. My original ering is VS2 I colour ideal cut and was appraised through GS Lab as well. I know these pics aren't the clearest as they were taken with my BB. I did see the stone in person and at the time it looked beautiful but while going through people's beauties I wanted to get some real feedback on other people perceptions on the comparison stones.

Sorry for posting in the wrong forum ladies... I'm a newbie!
