You got it!
I need to take more pics...

The above kwiat ring is what I am thinking of "suggesting" to the bf for my er ring. I am nervous it wont have the sparkle factor of a round diamond.

I adore my ring. People have told me the oval adds a bit of vintage.... I love it.

Okay, I''ve owned 22 diamonds (all trade ups/arounds) of just about every shape, color, you name it.
Yes, the round brilliants (IF CUT WELL) will give off the most fire (color sparks) or scintillation (white sparks). However, I have found charm in my oval in that it offers the twinkle of a radiant in the center, the facet flashes of an emerald and princess cut around the edges, the taper of a pear, the finger real estate of a rectangular modified brilliant, and the wonderful brilliance of a round (if you find the right one).

For me, I found the best of all possible worlds. I am FINALLY happy (ok, well, I believe I really am!!)

You cannot beat the size appearance per dollar spent for an oval. I have heard and think I agree that you need some kind of side stones with one, to soften the sides a bit. I wear mine with a matching channel set band, and a eternity band.

Platbride, I adore the ring you have picked out. Very blingacious. I think you will be very happy with that--and an oval!!!!!
If the sun was shining here, I''d be able to post some pics showing the real brilliance of my oval...I looks kinda falsely pastey in my pic I just showed you. I promise it has major life!

Try comparing your oval to a round of the same carat and you will be won over. (I do suggest seeing the oval in person before purchase.)

Thanks for the encouraging words! I agree, I should compare an oval to a round in person to squash any doubts.

PlatinumBride~

I used to have an oval e-ring. I had it taken out of the setting when I divorced my XH, and I sold the setting and wedding band. I still have the diamond, and I had originally planned on having it reset into some other item of jewelry, but I just haven''t been able to bring myself to do it . . . too many bad memories associated with that pretty stone! So, I plan on selling the diamond sometime soon, since I can''t bear to wear it.

My oval is about 0.50 carat, and it came from a "maul" jeweler, but I loved it. I don''t think it has any less sparkle than any of the other shapes, and it faces up pretty big for its size. I think oval diamonds are absolutely beautiful, and I think you should go for it if that''s the shape that appeals to you. Good luck, and make sure to come back and show us pics when you get it!!!

What cha mean? Like, prong without diamond pave anywhere on the band, or, pave leading up to the center stone? Are you looking at sets- or are you looking primarily at engagement rings alone, for now? Personally, if I was looking for pave, I''d want to get the matching wedding band.

If you get a simple prong now, you can always add an anniversary pave ring down the road.

i meant on the band...pave or shared prong. Also I am new to the diamond search, and after a second look at the ring i posted..is it a cushion? haha

Well, I didn''t want to hurt your feelings or anything (and was kinda doubting I had seen it all), but yeah, I think it might be a cushion or at least a modified (edges rounded off) radiant... I''ll have to look again.

Anyhoo, I love both looks, shared prong or pave. Too many choices in the world. How about window shopping somewhere to simply try both types on and see what looks good on you? I''ve had several erings over the years, one that had simple baguette sides, another that had a little bit of many things going on, to the one now. I love the dainty barely-there share prong rings I''ve seen. I also love the blingy pave ones. Darn too hard to choose. Go try some on!
