I am sure she can make plain settings if she can do pave. I personally haven''t seen any. All the work she has shown me has a vintage look. Mine is probably the most modern I have seen.Date: 5/17/2009 12:32:51 AM

so beautiful charmypoo! i am wondering how her rings look as round brilliant solitaires with a plain basket (no pave)- or is she more into doing intricate vintagey looks?

Here is my ring from Maytal. Maytal will be remaking it once my new diamond is cut.
She is a lovely woman and extremely easy to work with. Maytal is responsive and has great customer service. She wants to make sure you are happy with your purchase and I find that really important!

I have a Maytal 3-stone with no pave and no engraving. I hesitated to use her because I was not interested in a Beaudry-esque design, but figured that if she could do ornate she could likely do simple as well. Like you, I was deciding between Maytal and Leon and went with Maytal because she was local and seemed much more accommodating than Leon. I have to admit, though, that I somewhat regret not going with Leon...or perhaps someone else. My ring is pretty, but compared to other rings I have, the workmanship doesn''t seem as fine. When I brought up a couple of my concerns with Maytal, she was not as nice or accommodating as she had been. For my last project (one very similar to the one you''re describing), I used 23rd Street Jewelers. They were actually cheaper than the quote Maytal gave me for the same project and they do fantastic work. They''ve recently had some personnel changes (due to the economy, I would assume) and the woman who helped me is no longer there. That''s a real shame because she was awesome to work with. I''m not wild about the remaining salespeople, but I still think they are a great option for custom work. I would absolutely say that the quality of their work is just as good as Leon. Good luck!
OMG Cind11, that is beautiful! I am going to look up your posts to see more handshots if you have any. Pretttttty!Date: 5/17/2009 2:21:49 AM

Here is my Maytal ring. She was great to work with...
I found Maytal to be very accepting and nice towards our feedback. I felt awful because it wasn''t what I wanted but she was really nice. She said she would remake our whole ring because she wants her customers to be happy.Date: 5/17/2009 11:32:15 AM

I actually don''t wear the ring because I am not engaged yet. Plus, I don''t want to get too attached to the ring since both the diamond and setting will be getting replaced. I am attached to the diamond but I can only have one so we are looking for a OMCish one instead of the beautiful modern cushion I have.Date: 5/17/2009 10:43:59 AM

I also went to see 23rd street jewlers and loved their work. I am having an issue in their responsiveness and their lack of follow-up. Just not the customer service I want. They do amazing work though .. I would love to find someone who uses their bench people and work through them.

thanks, kennedy, for the honest review. I too am torn between the long distance Leon or the somewhat closer Maytal (I am in SF). From what I''ve seen in this thread, she does beautiful work, but until I''ve seen something like what I want for myself done by her, I won''t know for sure! I will look up 23rd St Jewelers today, and see if they have any samples of what I am looking for. Do you have any pics of your ring btw?
Thanks for the info. I am not in SF but I sure would go check them out when I am there. Always looking for good jewelers.Date: 5/18/2009 9:48:40 AM

If you''re in SF, you might want to check out a small jeweler in San Anselmo called Mar-Chet. I stumbled into their shop a few months ago while visiting family in Marin. The owner does all his own work on site and specializes in hand fabricated (not cast) jewelry. I was very impressed with the quality of the pieces I saw and found the owner to be very nice. I would absolutely consider them for a future project.
I''m sorry, but I don''t have any pics of my ring.
I am sorry but I don''t want to think about my ring anymore. It has caused a lot of unnecessary stress and I have moved on to look forward to the next one.Date: 5/18/2009 9:41:11 AM

I''m very glad you felt Maytal was receptive to your concerns. Do you mind if I ask what you didn''t like about your ring? It looks beautiful, by the way.
I don''t know if you''ve been trying to contact 23rd Street via phone or email, but they are terrible about answering emails. I''m not even sure why they have a website if they don''t intend on answering email inquiries. I have found them to be quite good about returning phone calls, though. Again, given their personnel changes as of late, I''m not as keen on their current sales staff, but I still think their jewelers are awesome. I agree, it would be great if we could work with their bench people directly! Save a ton of money that way too!
Thanks to both of you!Date: 5/18/2009 10:16:28 AM

Wow Kennedy,
Visited their website and did a search on PS for rings by 23rd Street and found this ring to be beautiful... I''d just want it to be platinum and set for a round brilliant, and have the prongs be single. The work looks comparable to Leon, dare I say!

But if from what CharmyPoo says here, perhaps they''ll flake with communicating with me.
I live in SF, maybe I should call and visit them in person?
