pretty please? and how do you feel it compares or contrasts to Leon Mege erings? i am on the west coast and the thought of working with maytal sounds comforting just cause maytal is in CA like i am. LM is in NY which worries me, but i love his solitaires, specifically rings 301, 311, and 401.

I have a Maytal ring & I LOVE it! I don''t have any experience with Leon so I can''t really compare, though the pictures of his work that I have seen are amazing. My FI thought Maytal was great to work with. We really loved the look of the Daniel K rosebud & we asked her to make something similar with a few modifications.

Here''s a link to my SMTR thread. I really don''t think the pictures do it justice. I often think they look the setting look bulky when, in reality, the thickest it gets is 1.8mm!

I don''t think you can go wrong with Maytal or Leon! Both are great artists.

Ms. Goggles, you ring is amazing!!!!!!!!

If I lived in CA, I wouldn''t hesitate to use Maytal. Her work is excellent from all the rings I have seen on here.

Ms. G. Gorgeous ring!

So pretty I am in love with it! Anyone out there?

Here is my ring from Maytal. Maytal will be remaking it once my new diamond is cut.

She is a lovely woman and extremely easy to work with. Maytal is responsive and has great customer service. She wants to make sure you are happy with your purchase and I find that really important!

so beautiful charmypoo! i am wondering how her rings look as round brilliant solitaires with a plain basket (no pave)- or is she more into doing intricate vintagey looks?

I am sure she can make plain settings if she can do pave. I personally haven''t seen any. All the work she has shown me has a vintage look. Mine is probably the most modern I have seen.

I have a Maytal 3-stone with no pave and no engraving. I hesitated to use her because I was not interested in a Beaudry-esque design, but figured that if she could do ornate she could likely do simple as well. Like you, I was deciding between Maytal and Leon and went with Maytal because she was local and seemed much more accommodating than Leon. I have to admit, though, that I somewhat regret not going with Leon...or perhaps someone else. My ring is pretty, but compared to other rings I have, the workmanship doesn''t seem as fine. When I brought up a couple of my concerns with Maytal, she was not as nice or accommodating as she had been. For my last project (one very similar to the one you''re describing), I used 23rd Street Jewelers. They were actually cheaper than the quote Maytal gave me for the same project and they do fantastic work. They''ve recently had some personnel changes (due to the economy, I would assume) and the woman who helped me is no longer there. That''s a real shame because she was awesome to work with. I''m not wild about the remaining salespeople, but I still think they are a great option for custom work. I would absolutely say that the quality of their work is just as good as Leon. Good luck!

thanks, kennedy, for the honest review. I too am torn between the long distance Leon or the somewhat closer Maytal (I am in SF). From what I''ve seen in this thread, she does beautiful work, but until I''ve seen something like what I want for myself done by her, I won''t know for sure! I will look up 23rd St Jewelers today, and see if they have any samples of what I am looking for. Do you have any pics of your ring btw?

I found Maytal to be very accepting and nice towards our feedback. I felt awful because it wasn''t what I wanted but she was really nice. She said she would remake our whole ring because she wants her customers to be happy.

I also went to see 23rd street jewlers and loved their work. I am having an issue in their responsiveness and their lack of follow-up. Just not the customer service I want. They do amazing work though .. I would love to find someone who uses their bench people and work through them.

I actually don''t wear the ring because I am not engaged yet. Plus, I don''t want to get too attached to the ring since both the diamond and setting will be getting replaced. I am attached to the diamond but I can only have one so we are looking for a OMCish one instead of the beautiful modern cushion I have.

I only have one hand pic taken long time ago. It is an awful pic and I swear the diamond looks much better. The photo was taken in a dark hallway painted brown with beige carpet. Doh.

Here is another photo .. I was trying to compare my diamond with two other options (I ended up passing on them).

I''m very glad you felt Maytal was receptive to your concerns. Do you mind if I ask what you didn''t like about your ring? It looks beautiful, by the way.

I don''t know if you''ve been trying to contact 23rd Street via phone or email, but they are terrible about answering emails. I''m not even sure why they have a website if they don''t intend on answering email inquiries. I have found them to be quite good about returning phone calls, though. Again, given their personnel changes as of late, I''m not as keen on their current sales staff, but I still think their jewelers are awesome. I agree, it would be great if we could work with their bench people directly! Save a ton of money that way too!

If you''re in SF, you might want to check out a small jeweler in San Anselmo called Mar-Chet. I stumbled into their shop a few months ago while visiting family in Marin. The owner does all his own work on site and specializes in hand fabricated (not cast) jewelry. I was very impressed with the quality of the pieces I saw and found the owner to be very nice. I would absolutely consider them for a future project.

I''m sorry, but I don''t have any pics of my ring.

That's so funny, MrsS -- I just posted those same photos in Pannini's other thread.

Thanks for the info. I am not in SF but I sure would go check them out when I am there. Always looking for good jewelers.

I am sorry but I don''t want to think about my ring anymore. It has caused a lot of unnecessary stress and I have moved on to look forward to the next one.

Contacting 23rd Jewelers by phone or email is useless. I went to see them in person and they answered my quesitons. I was going to do a project with them and they were suppose to follow up with me (got their sales personal word). Guess what - after 1 month I have heard nothing yet. Normally, I would follow-up but I had concerns about their communication skills and wanted to use this as a test.

Wow Kennedy,

Visited their website and did a search on PS for rings by 23rd Street and found this ring to be beautiful... I''d just want it to be platinum and set for a round brilliant, and have the prongs be single. The work looks comparable to Leon, dare I say!
https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/my-new-pink-champagne-e-ring.78974/page-2

But if from what CharmyPoo says here, perhaps they''ll flake with communicating with me.

I live in SF, maybe I should call and visit them in person?

I absolutely think their workmanship is comparable to Leon''s. No doubt about it. I''ve seen their pave work up close and it''s exquisite. Truly a work of art. They will probably cost more than Leon, but I was willing to pay the difference for a variety of reasons.

As for their customer service, my experience with them has been mostly good -- they don''t answer emails, so don''t even try. When I''ve called, they''ve always called me back. As I said, they''ve downsized their sales staff and I''m not wild about who''s left. If you have a choice between Tina and Sheila (the only two who are left in addition to the owners), I would definitely ask to work with Tina. Sheila is nice, but, for some reason, I just don''t have any confidence in her.

I would also encourage you to contact Mar-Chet jewelers since they''re in the Bay Area. I got a really good feeling about them and you could easily check them out in person. I can''t personally vouch for their work since I haven''t bought anything from them, but what I saw looked very nice.

bumping.......

I''d love to see some more of Maytal''s work. Anybody?
