Hi, I'm new here, so please point me in the right direction if this isn't the correct forum for this post. I'd love to see l/m diamonds set it yellow or rose gold. Mine is currently in white gold, but I want to have it re-set with red accent stones. (Leaning toward red spinel.) I've been wondering if the warm tone from the yellow/rose would accent my stone nicely, as opposed to the dirty color it has now in the white gold. (For the record, I don't think all l/m look dirty in white gold, but my specific one does. So please no offense if you have one set in white gold.)

Here's ours in rose gold. L, faint brown. I can't tell the color at all.

That's beautiful! The rose gold perfectly accents your stone!

That was my stone before I upgraded to my K... I loved how it looked in rose gold. :kiss2: Here are a few more pics I found:

And here’s an N in 18k yellow gold, with white gold prongs:

Thank you for showing the N in yellow gold as well. I love yours in rose gold! What made you decide to upgrade to the K? Did you get tired of the M color?

@wanderhome, How nice that you have a family heirloom. Did the jeweler say old mine cut? The threads here showing lower color old cut diamonds might be more applicable in that case. How does your diamond look after it's been cleaned very well?

Not at all! I just got tired of it not being a bigger size.

When I found the 2.31ct, it was a crazy unicorn stone that just happen to be much higher in color and clarity without much of a price difference compared to the L/Ms. It also had a higher crown/lower pavillion angle combo I was looking for too. So, I couldn’t pass it up.

Would love to see photos of your stone if you have it - love heirloom pieces! Did your jeweler call it a circular brilliant?

No, it wasn't old mine cut. It was after transitional cut, but my understanding was that RB came after transitional, so that's why I was confused. Maybe I'll ask him again tomorrow when I go pick up my sapphire. Here is my original engagement ring. I am appreciative to have a family stone, but I know at the time they didn't expect this to last, and it's highly occluded. (Is that the right word?) Anyway, coming up on 13 years, and it's served us well, haha. I'm glad she had something no one else wanted, because we sure didn't have money back then, and I really do love it. I just don't care for IT in white gold, although white gold is usually my preference.

I hear ya! My newer ring is an oval sapphire that is larger. I just had the head updated and pick it up tomorrow. Maybe it was circular brilliant. I'll have to ask him again. He just gets distracted and goes off on other topics and it's hard to reign him back in, haha.
I posted a pic of my diamond above. The setting is not antique. I'm not sure if my husband picked it or if his mom did. They were just going off the knowledge at the time that I liked side accent stones. But if I had known they were considering a family piece, I would have liked it in the original setting. Just as well though, because now I can put it in whatever setting I want and have it as a RHR.

@wanderhome circular round or circular brilliant?

Edit...doh, just saw you mentioned circular brilliant in your last post!

So I asked today about the cut, and he said it looked like a traditional round brilliant. (It wasn't the guy I normally deal with.) I looked at it closer last night and compared it to pictures online and had already come to the same conclusion. I do think the table it larger than it should be though, but I don't have the tools to measure correctly myself.

I think your diamond looks great in its current setting, but if you're going to change it I would probably pick rose gold over yellow gold for your particular diamond. I love red spinel. What kind of setting were you thinking of?

EDIT - I also have an L colored family heirloom that I'm trying to decide how to set.

I'm leaning toward a halo or cluster of sorts, but I'm not opposed to red side stones providing they are almost as big as the diamond.
