Until this thread I had never thought of putting my gems out In full sun.
It‘s been a revelation! Thanks, @CBianco for this idea.
Happy Holidays, everyone!

Oh my… is there a thread on your snake ring? It’s great.
Thank you! I love this little band.
No, but I plastered the twins all over other threads to make up for it
It was made by Olya at OOZA Jewelry. Her detailing is just gorgeous! She also has a dedicated site. I bought it off her Etsy shopfront.

This blue spinel in marble specimen from the Hunza Valley in Pakistan looks pretty lively in the sun:

I got a Chelsea filter recently, and that spinel turns ruby red through it so it's very likely cobalt spinel.

Sapphires, ruby and Vanadium chrysoberyl in sunlight

These are amazing! I love the 'trapiche' ruby. I'm guessing that it has a 'shimmery' glow rather than a 'glowy' glow, like the others.

Such beautiful photos—and so many different species of gemstones too!

I bumped up the “Fun with Fluorescence!” thread if anyone wants to check out the photos over there too. (Quoted here—I don’t know how to link to it directly.)
OK, so this is a fun little game to play with your colored gemstones. All you need is a camera and a loupe with a UV light. (I got mine inexpensively on Etsy from FDJtools in Florida.) What is fun is that stones colored with chromium will fluoresce red, but if they have very much iron (like blue sapphire), the iron will block the fluorescence. Maybe somebody can explain it better than me! Anyway, the Mahenge spinels fluoresce really strongly and so does ruby, like in the center of my avatar ring. The demantoid garnets don't fluoresce. Feel free to post your own favorites too!!

It sort of counts?! Look! I'm so excited it showed peacock color! This is the color of my blue spinel I see with my eyes. I don't know how to make this happen again, and it's blurry. But, look, it's not navy! It's the color I see with my eyes!

Two lucky sapphire finds at a second hand jewellery store, while travelling. I took them to an appraiser to double check that they are natural sapphires. I will unmount and send to AGL when I return home. 734C1383-607B-4EA0-948E-0929EE226F96.jpeg
