I have recently been looking for a wedding band and am having trouble picturing what a 1.8mm versus 2.0mm versus 2.5mm, etc. ring will look like. I think it would be really helpful to post a photo of your ering with your wedding band (or bands if you wear more than one), with it's size in mm.

Mine is 2mm My e-ring seems to be a wee but thinner so I'm guessing like 1.85 on the e-ring.

Hey yenny!

I think it also depends on the shape of the band as well. a 2 mm pipe cut band vs a 2mm knife edge band will appear more substantial and "wider" imo. I tested this out with other bands that I have and noticed that anything domed shape appear thinner than a flatter band width wise even though it measures the same width. Not sure if that confuses you or not :) This can apply to bands that is solid metal vs with gemstones or diamonds or mix... it is a strange feeling optical illusion :loopy: ...lol

If there is anyway for you to go out and try some out, I know 1.8mm may be hard to come buy but try some mountings and flip it over usually they have thinner width on the bottom with some 2mm band and 2.5-3mm band.

here is a my Victor Canera band at about 1.8mm and the ruby diamonb bezel shown here is about 2mm and I don't know if you can see the shank of my ring on the split shank ering varies in wdith, but about 1.5mm at the thinnest part.
ETA: forgot to mention that becuase of the "roundness" of my shank it looks even thinner than the VC band from the picture and it sits a hair lower than the VC band.

Hi Yenny-
Here's my JM engagement ring with a couple of bands. My engagement ring is thin in width but also thick and built up for durability.
eta: Diamond 1.85 carats. Ring size: 4.5

Engagement ring is approximately 1.5mm at the thinnest point. Wedding band is 2.0mm.
IMG_2176.jpg

Yellow gold vintage band is approximately 1.8mm - So e-ring 1.5 with 1.8 and 2.0mm together.

My shank on my engagement ring was 2mm... but I'm now wondering if Steven thinned it out a little (which would be fine, honestly, the proportions of the ring work as a whole and that's what I care about) because at least in pics it looks thinner next to my wedding band which I know for sure is 2mm. Here's the pic either way.

Hi Coatimundi! I'm obsessed with this engagement ring. It's absolutely stunning. Do you mind sharing where you got it? Or where I can find something similar? I've been looking around for a while and haven't found anything close to this. Thanks so much!

I don't know if Coati will see this or not, but her ring is much loved here on PS! The designer is James Meyer Jewelry. He no longer accepts outside stones last I heard, but has complete rings available for sale. This is a very popular design of his.

Hope this helps you out a little :wavey: :twirl:

It's night time here already so I had to take pics under artificial light.

1. The part closest to the emerald cut is 1.5 mm and gradually increases to 1.7 mm
2. The full bezel is around 2.2 mm
3. The 4-prong is 1.8 mm
4. The channel is 2.3ish mm
5. The plain band is 1.7-1.8 mm

I've attached two pics to show the rings under two lighting conditions.

Awwww....thanks heaps, Alex!!! :appl: :twirl:

On a side note: I'm soooo happy you stayed true to yourself and stacked your three rings :appl: :appl: :appl: . I know full well that stacks aren't for everyone but I personally don't care as I love them...as you can see :appl:  :appl: I was, to be honest, a little disheartened that people were "not so constructive" with their comments in your thread. I say so long as you love it, rock it....because in the end, it's what makes you happy that matters most :twirl:

Love your stack! Thread jack over

Thank you, me&myboys. They are 3 very important rings in my life & I did feel quite hurt & upset at many of the comments as I wasn't asking which ring to dump, just which combination looked more fluid under the circumstances of them being very different styles. I did resort to wearing just my wedding band for a few days, quite upset that general opinion was that my rings were too busy & didn't look nice together, but then thought stuff it. I love them

Yennyfire - what will you be wearing your new band with? It'll be interesting to see what you settle for.

This thread is almost 2 years old. It got bumped because someone asked about Coati's set that she posted here for a comparison. I'm guessing yenny has long since had the band she was inquiring about here!

No big deal :))
I'm just not sure yenny is even monitoring this thread or knows that it's been bumped.

woops. Well somoene maybe can use this info anyway.

For reference:
The Vatche is about 2.25mm wide, and the plain band is 2.1mm wide.

The Flyer diamond band here is I believe 1.85mm wide:

The Tiffany 2mm channel set is actually 2.2mm wide:

With my former Facets 5pt Raphael band (I think it was 2.4-2.5mm wide)

With the bead set band using the 5 pt stones from the Raphael band (this band is 2.7mm wide)

No problem! Happy to help. Coati's ring is much loved here. Do a search for James Meyer, there are several other owners of that setting (James Meyer/JM 1345).

Hi I was wondering where you got your gorgeous vintage yellow gold band from. It looks like a beautiful match with your ring!
