Should've taken my own advice:ULTRA SONIC CLEANERS ARE BAD

I've always known that ultra sonics can shake stones loose. I lost a diamond from my bezeled bracelet a few years ago because of the ultra sonic cleaner, but I was so drawn to its amazing cleaning that I used it on my ering for my pesky kite cuts that just won't clean with the JewelJet. Bad move. I lost a teeeeeeny tiny diamond from my setting. Of course I only noticed that while I was in the middle of cleaning something else (that I thought would be secure) and watched a diamond literally shake right out of its setting. I guess the good thing is that I was able to rescue both lost diamonds from the water, but man do I feel stupid. So take the advice that I couldn't take for myself - they're bad.

So sorry!!! (But don't blame the ultrasonic!)

It's shook three totally different kinds of settings' diamonds loose. That's not a good track record.

Your e-ring is pave so that was risky. But I don't understand a bezeled diamond coming out??? Were the backs open?

What type of ultra sonic is it? Some of them have different action to others.

Yeah, I knew I was being dumb cleaning the ering, but damn DS you should've seen how those kites gleamed after a good shake. *sigh* and yeah, the bezel has an open back. I was pretty surprised that it popped out too. The third was prong set. Scary stuff. I need to throw it away so I'm not tempted by it's super sparkling hold it has on me again.

I'm sorry your ring has a boo-boo. That stinks! Steam cleaner next time?

My JewelJet can't get the kites all that well, but I guess I'll just suffer through it. No more lost stones damnit. :-)

I totally sympathize! I actually have kite sapphires on the asscher ring, so I know what you mean about wanting them to be really clean. Step cuts really need it. I don't have a good answer because I know it is hard to get something as clean as with the u-s.

I had a ring appraised and the appraiser used an ultrasonic which caused a melee to fall out. They claimed that ultrasonic would not shack a melee loose and that it was loose if it falls out. They claim it is better that we lose it in the ultrasonic versus outside. I don't buy it because I don't use my ultrasonic cleaner anymore for pave rings and have not lost one since.

I hope you find someone to put it back in soon. I know how annoying it is to look down and see a black hole!!
