Actually, the more I read the posts and the more I think about it the more I'm OK with the CE diamond. I know everyone is saying they're terrible, but the place I bought it from will fix it for free and will always let me trade for my purchase price. So in my mind, why would they screw me over if I could just trade in for anything I wanted in the store anyways? The picture of the CE diamond after 5 years kinda bothers me, but thats one picture. I'd need to see more pictures to form a true opinion about it. But again, if that happens I can get it fixed at no cost.
then i don't understand the point of starting this thread... members gave you their honest opinion about CE stones.

Then by all means, keep it. It just doesn't make any sense. At least if you're going to buy a clarity enhanced stone, it should for a steal, a crazy cheap price. This is not.

1) Lower quality Diamond + High Price
If they are happy getting a lower quality diamond at a higher price (with risks of replacing/upgrading/insuring), then it makes sense to keep it?

otherwise any of the combinations below would be better
2) Low quality Diamond + Low price
3) Good Diamond + High Price
4) Good Diamond + Low Price (recommendations we prefer around here), generally from larger well established companies, with long history of customer satisfaction and larger inventories.

Other vendors have trade-in policies, so that's not a good enough reason. Hopefully you'll digest the comments here and return the stone.

Wait, what? I said it doesn't make any sense. I think it's a bad decision.

It seems like the OP's mind is already made up however, for some odd reason.

sorry, still trying to find the /Sarcasm font...I meant to imply if you want the worst combination of quality and price, and wish to ignore all recommendations to the contrary, then ignoring reason makes sense :-)

I agree with the general consensus. To help the OP, how much do you guys think he overpaid? I think that might get the message across. I don't know anything about the price of CH diamonds.

Oh, gotcha! ;)

i'd say he overpaid by $2000

i feel like we're hitting a brick wall here guys. best to take our efforts to a more receptive OP...

my first stab, I would say he paid $3,000 or 2x too much

If I were to guess, this stone will likely be similar to what he received, but didn't require treatment. ($3,032)

Price would likely be lower for an Si3 or I1 which this might have been before treatment

Ditto. The stone I found and posted on page 1 from JA that was NOT CE was $2k less.

ETA: This CE princess is 1.73, K SI1 for $4,753: http://www.yehuda.com/viewproduct.asp?ID=13806740&ProductID=36372&type=loose&parcel_id=NGG50172942&itemstatus=1

And this CE princess is 1.34 I VS2 for $4,278: http://www.yehuda.com/viewproduct.asp?ID=13806740&ProductID=27731&type=loose&parcel_id=GE11150254&itemstatus=0

Yes, and I agree with Kenny that this post may have been created just to get a rouse out of everybody.

Hard to find J/I2's so its hard to say how much he overpaid. Its clarity enhanced AND graded by EGL - so it would be a GIA Jish as far as color (if they graded CEs but they dont right?) and probably ~SI2 after treatment which means I1/I2 before treatment which means he overpaid more than we're estimating.

Realized I didn't include the GIA 1.26 J VS1 with ideal cut from JA for $4,310:

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/J-VS1-Ideal-Cut-Princess-Diamond-1405182.asp

And this from BC2 is EGL 1.32 J SI1 for $3,812:

At this point, I don't care if he sticks with the CE stone and thinks he got a great 'deal' since we all know he didn't, I care more about someone finding this thread later and deciding to return their CE or EGL stone or not buy one in the first place. :cheeky:

I feel like we've all jumped on you and scared you off. I'm sure that wasn't our intention. It's hard sometimes to say more than just "run away". If you're anything like me being told what to do and not why will just make you stand more firm.

To answer your questions...Yes, I believe you should worry. Clarity enhanced diamonds need up-keep and will need to be re-done every few years. In addition, you overpaid by a substantial amount. For the same price you could find a better quality diamond of the same size. One that has a certificate and won't need the up-keep that the CE diamond does.

It's not about love though. Love isn't based on diamonds, if it was I'd be poor around these parts! You obviously did what you thought best. There is time to change your path, return the diamond you bought and get a different one. If you want to. If not, that's cool too, it's your stone. If you'd like to show it off and us to admire it, the Show Me the Bling forum is the best place for that!
