So I got my WF ACA in today.

It's a .81, H, eyeclean SI1, $2,800. I was blown away by it's sparkle but I have a concern. I am able to distinguish a decent amount of yellow tint to it and I'm not certain that the GF would like that very much. It's H&A but you really don't see that when you just glance at a stone anyway.

Once I looked at it, I looked on blue nile and found some stones that I think I may prefer.

Stone 1 .81 D SI1 1.4 HCA score $2,949 Medium Flour

Stone 2 .80 E SI1 .7 HCA score $2,933 Medium Flour

What do you guys think? The hint of yellow really concerns me. Granted, the stone is not set right now so I can look at it from all angles.

Do you think these stones will be as attractive as the WF ACA?

Hi Adam,

Do WF have anything available in a higher colour that might suit you? I think you might have posted the same diamond twice?

It could be that you are one of those colour sensitive folk, granted the diamond should look better once set but if you do definitely see warmth and you are unhappy then I would look for G colour or better with a top cut.

One thing though, have you tested the diamond out in different lights and surroundings? It could be the diamond is picking up colour from its surroundings - for example if you have yellowish walls or lighting that could make the diamond look warm. Also ensure it is clean as handling it will quickly dull it. So if this might be the case take it for a test drive and see how it looks outside and in various other lighting situations if you haven't already done so.

It looks like all their ACA diamonds they have left are more than a carat and as a result, about 4,000 more than those diamonds.

were you wearing anything yellow or the surrounding is yellow while you are looking at the stone?

If buying from Blue Nile I would go with a VS2. There is no way to know is the SI1 is eye clean since they are a drop shipper.

What he said. Take it outside and see if you still see the yellow.

I have a yellow shirt on. Think it is picking that up even when I hold it away from my body?

What about in expert selection range - anything there?

Yap, it could pick up the color. Change your shirt and take a look at it again.

Definitely could be the case as I mentioned above with surroundings or reflections, change your shirt and then see what happens! You would be surprised at how often this happens, we have had a few posters in this situation.

Replace the yellow shirt with a white one and take the diamond out into natural lighting and as many other lights as you can before you make a definite judgement.

I have owned an expert selection diamond from WF which had ideal proportions according to all the tools we use of PS, and I traded it in recently for an ACA. There is simply no comparison between the two! The ACA has so much more fire and it also has more life in a variety of lighting conditions. In my very humble opinion, I will only buy ACA diamonds from now on... or Brian Gavin Signature diamonds, since he is the cutter who created ACA''s the start.

Honestly, it seems unlikely that you are *truly* detecting yellow in an H color stone. Instead, at most, you should see a slight beige tint. The environment you are in matters a lot, and if the walls are yellow or taupe or beige or brown, this will really really affect your diamond. Take the stone into a very white environment and wear white and look again. Maybe you see tint, in which case you should get a higher color (though you probably won''t see a difference with G, you would need an E to notice it I bet). Buuuuut if you don''t see any unappealing tint in an all white environment, then you are seeing the normal color-reflective properties of an ideal diamond and even a higher color stone will show it.

If you are interesetd I just posted a thread comparing an F to a K... check it out https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/photographic-death-match-f-versus-k.116295/

YES!!! An ideal diamond will pick up color from the ceiling and DEFINITELY from your shirt!

I took it outside and WOW! It looked phenomenal. I now have it inside under crappy flourescent lighting and it still looks good. I notice it picks up a more yellow tint when my fingers get real close to the sides of the stone. Anytime I look at it from above it looks perfectly white. I suppose once set in white gold or platinum i won''t ever be able to tell a difference.

I am gonna bring it around to find the right setting tomorrow I think. I''ll try to take some pictures later and show.

I''m at work so I didn''t take off my yellow shirt but I did hold it far away from me.

Here is a picture to illustrate! On the left are my diamonds with a white shirt on, on the right with a yellow shirt. Same lighting, same everything... The top diamond is an F color and the bottom a K.

Did you mean the Left is with a white shirt and the Right is with yellow? B/c they both looked more yellow to me in the right than left.

I have noticed this too... most skin colors have a brown/yellow/taupe undertone and that can be picked up by the diamond too!

Thanks for the help! I''m gonna bring it to get set and when I see it sitting in some settings, if I still notice color I''ll reconsider, but for now the jury has convinced me to hang on to my ACA.

Haha.. whooops! Fixed it in my post. Actually, you can see the yellow shirt reflecting in the gold band too on the right, that''s a dead giveaway that the environment is causing the color you see.

yep hang on to those ACAs... it really is amazing and will even be more so in a setting.

YAY! I bet your ACA is STUNNING!

Yes, a well cut diamond such as yours will pick up all kinds of colors around it. Here''s an example. The plate the ring is sitting on has pink and blue in it, and there it is in the diamond.

I wouldn''t worry, I think it will be just fine, it''s doing what it''s supposed to!
