Should I resize my ring?

I ordered my wedding ring (a plain 2mm rose gold band) in a size 5 1/2 because I was worried about my rings feeling tighter when I wear my engagement and wedding rings together and I was thinking about the chance that my finger size may increase as I get older/have children.

My engagement ring is a size 5.25 but I think I am actually a size 5 because my ering does spin a little. However, my knuckles are quite big...

Do you think it's worth resizing from a 5 1/2 to a 5 1/4? The company I got my wedding rings from says it doesn't usually resize even by 1/2 sizes because the difference is negligible... The ring is definitely not going to slide off my finger, even when I shake my hand it stays put, but I am worried about swimming/washing my hands and having it slip off then.

I think I will probably leave it as it is (I am not a big swimmer anyway haha) because most of the time I will be wearing it with my ering anyway. But after speaking with a friend yesterday, I thought I would just check what you guys thought :))

Can you return/exchange for a 5.25? I would do it, it is worth it, because it can shake off when your hands are wet or cold.

There is a big difference between a 5.25 and a 5.5 to the wearer, especially with thin (2mm and under) shanks. A size 7 is my comfort size as my fingers range between 6.5 in the cold of winter and a 7 in the summer. A 7.25 literally falls off my hand, even with a 3.5mm shank. A quarter size makes a big difference!

You have two options...first, have a local jeweler put sizing balls in the e-ring, which would stop the spin. The second is to get it sized somewhere other than where you bought it.

Are you talking about an all gold, totally plain wedding ring? If so, a jeweler can shrink it without removing any metal. Later on it can also be stretched if you grow a bit.

If the ring is not plain, then sizing is not a big deal unless it is an eternity ring with no place to cut into it for sizing. Putting a spacer or balls inside becomes an option then and they are no big deal either. Do it so you enjoy wearing it. Don't fret over it..

I would definitely resize it. My jeweler also tried to tell me that a 1/4 size won't make a difference but for me, it means the difference of the ring being comfortable to wear or not. I think even 1/8 size can make a difference.

Can you exchange it for the smaller size???

It would be a good idea to double check that the quarter size smaller still goes over your knuckle OK. My ering seems to be just right/a little loose almost hourly, depending on the temperature. It's still secure and won't go over my knuckle, though. All jewelers have sets of sizing rings you can use to test just the right size.

I did have a problem a while back when I forced a ring over my knuckle. I ended up having to have the ring cut off (and ensuing repair). While my knuckles aren't huge, they're apparently wider at the back than at the front.

You might want to wait awhile, at least until you've lived with it during hot weather, to see whether it's still too big then. What's loose now may not be loose when it's warm and/or if you retain water at times.

yep. I'd wait it out and see how you feel in June. May not be able to exchange then just resize.

Thank you for all your advice! It's too late for me to exchange it as we have had it engraved but I think I may speak to the company and ask them if it there is anyway they would be happy to do it. I may also wait a little bit longer, as others have said, and see how it fits in the summer. I'm not married yet, so I am not wearing at the moment and at night etc so maybe I will see how I feel after the wedding in May. I would just feel so awful if I lost it...

Thank you for your advice, it is a completely plain gold ring. Would shrinking it mess up the engraving? The engraving is on the inside and only 1 word. I think sizing balls may be the best solution if I still feel it is a bit loose in the summer.

how does your ERing fit?? Your wedding band will br worn inside of your ERing- do if your ERing is a good fit it roll act as a shopper for your wedding band. Also if you ever get another band and want to stack you will want a little extra room so stacking will fit :)

I'd opt for the snugger fit.

I also have a plain, 2mm, gold wedding band. Originally, I looked at size 6. I decided on a 5.5 which is snug but not uncomfortable. It fits well in all seasons, and I never worry that it will fall off in the pool or cold weather. My e ring is size 6, and I'd never wear it swimming.

Over the years I've gained more than a couple of pounds ;) and my wedding ring still fits fine.
