So, I got engaged on Dec1, 2007 with a beautiful ring...(link to stone below)

http://www.whiteflash.com/round_ideal_cut/Round-Ideal-Cut-cut-diamond-513834.htm

It''s set in the YG stock 6 prong ring with WG head. I have my heart set on this beauty from MWM, however with a price tag of about $ 2k, I''m not sure I can justify the purchase since it''s not even platinum!

My FI and I are funding our entire wedding and I just feel bad spending that much on a setting when I have so many other priorities! I just know once we''re married, I will most likely not get the chance to reset it (then comes the house, then kids, etc).

The only thing that makes me really want to do it is I will only have the chance now and when I get my wedding band, I want to make sure it fits perfectly with my forever setting. I plan on getting a semi-eternity, possibly from Memoire due to the fact they are very low set.

My FI says it''s a waste since I will be the only one who can tell the difference between the two since the basket head is the only change....

Any suggestions? What would YOU do in my shoes?

Honestly, I wouldn''t bother changing for just a head difference...especially for that price tag. I''d rather get something else with $2000...like earrings or something. lol

If there is any way to swing the MWM now, I'd try to do it. you are right that life will come along and many times ring/settings get put on the back burner. even if you've got to keep wearing the temp setting a while longer and set aside a special setting savings account for the MWM. it's a beautiful setting and although pricy, I think he's worth it, especially if it's your dream setting and i was just looking over and old thread today about solitaires and although most folks probalby could not tell the difference you the wearer will be looking at it all the time and it should be something that brings you personal joy and happiness.

I think maybe I''m a bit confused. Is your head a plain pronged one and the picture you posted in your post is the one you want?

Could you post a pic of your ring you have now?

Since the basket head is the only real change would it be possible to take it to a local jeweller that does custom work and have them switch the heads on your ring you have now to something similar to what you want? That may come out quite a bit cheaper and leave more for your wedding since you wouldn''t be purchasing the entire ring.

I wouldn''t spend the money myself on the change especially if it is only something that you notice...can you wait until after the wedding? Especisally if you are paying for the wedding yourself.

I personally would find the money for the MM setting. IF this is truly your "forever" setting, I think you should get what you want. I think it''s worth the price, even if it isn''t platinum. You''re not just paying for the metal, you''re paying for the craftsmanship, and nobody, but nobody, makes a setting like he does. Period.

I agree w/Ellen''s post. He has made some amazing rings, I drool everytime I see them.

Ditto, I love MM''s work and would find the cost well worth it.
