After 30 years I received my "engagement ring". I picked it from Blue Nile after much research. I love the center Oval Cut stone- 1.06 carats, F, VS2, 1.37 L to W, very small culet, polish very good, symmetry very good. (supposedly a very good cut, depth 64.1%, Table 56% don''t know all that crown, etc stuff)

But I also had them set it in a platinum setting with 2 trillions .36 tcw. They are minimum VS2 and minimum H color. You don''t have other color choices with them.

I notice a difference. Does anyone else have F center with H sidestones?

After waiting so long I want it perfect. I have the option of returning and resetting as a solitaire, but I really wanted the trillions.

Should they have steered my away from this setting when I choose such a high color center stone?

If you don't love it, consider looking for other vendors who can build the ring for you with side stones that are a closer match, rather than settling. I'm sure there are a number of the online vendors who can do that for you.

Seems as if after waiting 30 years, you should love it...

I agree with Lop - keep the stone and have them take the setting back - or see if they can work out a compromise and just have them remove the trillions, so you can have another jeweler set a better color into your setting. If you are not too attached to the setting, by all means talk to other vendors.

Yep...keep that center stone and have another vendor source out F trillions for you. If you pay for it, it should be perfect!

Return the trillions, let BN know WHY since maybe that will prompt them to offer more choices in the future, and start sourcing a new vendor, Pscope vendors can help or there are tons out there!

Actually this brings up a thought, I was reading an industry magazine the other day in our appraiser's office waiting for her to finish our stuff, and I saw an ad for a website that sold ideal matched side stone pairs. They had all sorts of side stones, even really random shapes I'd never heard of! I just looked it up with what I remembered of the name and found it, www.idealmatchedpairs.com and this is their matched pair page: http://www.idealmatchedpairs.com/matchedpairs.html

Their site says they carry all sorts of colors and clarities. Worth a try!

Good luck.

Two trills, 0.4tcw... those are not huge! So I sincerely doubt the color will show. However, I am a completely nuts when it comes to the cut of this shape (which I happen to like) - shallow ones look like glass choips are represent the overwhelming majority

These things don't really get a chance to sparkle and fail pitifully any mild "dirt test" (maining they loose all caracter is the presence of impurities...).

If the two are nicely cut and clear, the H should not be a problem, aside their infringement of perrfection.

The site Mara suggests is way cool
