I've worn this for a year now, and I know I'm fickle... but I'd love some ideas for resetting this stone.

It's a 7.1mm or so oec, 1.34 or so ct. I don't have the specs in front of me...

It's in an antique platinum setting and I'd like to keep it in platinum if possible. Price is a consideration. I don't care about side stones, but would like something vintage looking. My big thing is the workmanship. I'm super ocd about that.

I don't mind the box-style head so much, it's the side stones in this current setting I don't love, especially the bagettes.
My local jeweler brought out some Gabriel NY settings that were white gold filigree and more of a shield or dome shape, but his prices were shocking and I don't think that's my style anyway.

I did see a Mark Morrell 6 prong setting on ebay but (it was for a smaller stone than this, but I liked it. It was a 6 prong head, plain band.

I'd love any suggestions. Secondhand is probably best if you've seen anything on ebay or elsewhere I'll also think about white gold too, though I'm currently wearing it with a platinum Orange Blossom band.

Thanks for any suggestions!

I love it as it is, but I understand the desire for change. I might add a blingier band.

I LOVE the way it looks now. but it doesnt matter how I feel about it, its how YOU feel about it.

If you have worn it for a year and it till hasn't satisfied you then no one would blame you for changing it up. Would you go for something completely different or just a different version of what you have? Sound like you might have a few things in mind

Beverly K makes a lot of really nice vintage style rings, but also I really like the idea of it in a contemporary solitaire as well.

I love that setting. If you do change, I hope you'll sell the setting on preloved.

Oh goodness, I'll have to say I love it in the current setting, too! I really don't have any suggestions other than perhaps Van Craeynest or Beverley K.

Thanks, it's not my original e-ring, so I'm not super sentimental. I think I've always loved the diamond, but only been so-so about the setting. My dh detests rectangular side cuts, so he's always meh on it. I think I would go for something different, it's just that it would be nice to go with an actual vintage setting, and that's a needle in a haystack. I do adore Beverley K but I'm betting she's out of my price range unless I get something pre-loved. I had one of her's once and it was perfection!

Maybe I'm bored with the skinny wedding band. I tried a couple eternity bands - one was too scratchy between my fingers and I couldn't get used to it, but it was a micro one, so maybe that was the problem. The other was just a little tight on me and I passed that along as well. I have a hard time figuring out what will go with, and the local store is hyper to sell me something so I avoid going to try one on, or I have three salespeople leaning over me. I do have some heavier but still narrow plat bands but they look out of proportion or something. Maybe I just need to get used to one of them.

I think the setting is okaaaay. If I do reset, I'll definitely put it up on preloved.

Meanwhile I'm just paralyzed by indecision! I'm also thinking of wearing a 5 stone as a left hand ring, but then this one looks a little silly on my right hand... I may just sell the whole thing, but then it will be a looong time before I buy another this size.

Don't know about Van Craeynest; will look into! Thanks.

Oh well, feeling guilty now about my first world problems!

I feel you on wanting the change. I liked those types of illusion style mounts in pics, but then I had one in person and I did not like how it masked the outline of the stone.

Your diamond is basically the same size as a calibrated 1.25ct. You can likely find something on ebay.

I would have to agree. I like it as is too.

What is your budget? I'm surprised Gabriel & Co were out of budget, unless your budget is under $1500-ish? Bev K prices range, but you can get a ballpark on Greenwich Jewelers or here : http://www.elizabetajewelry.com/ring-designer/beverley-k-rings/ IDJ and GOG can order Bev K for you, at a great price. For reference, my setting was $1390 in May (without customizations, $1590 with).

Hey, thanks for all the input. It's just the side stones. And the way the box-illusion type head hides the stone somewhat, dreamer is right about that. But, I can live with it for now...
The Beverley k prices might be doable. I hadn't thought of idjewelry. I wonder if they are as perfectionist as me when it comes to setting a stone though... I'd like to find something under 1500 new, or maybe under about 1000 used. The 18k Gabriel and co settings at my jeweler were in the 1500-3000 range! But then, they are over the top in price IMO.
I'll check eBay for 1.25ct settings. Hadn't thought to search by carat size!

Hi Lucyruth! I'd definitely suggest you contact Yekutiel at IDJ and talk to him about setting options. He was very knowledgable and efficient at helping me when I visited the booth last week. If you find something on the BevK or Gabriel sites, send him the links and he'll go by the mm of your stone. That man knows his stuff!!

I would suspect you'd be pleasantly surprised at pricing.... ;))
