I was just drooling over Jcrow''s ring when I saw the difference it made when she changed the head of her ring from prongs similar to the ones I have now to the WF buttercup prongs. (See comparison photos on page 9)

My ring is a 2.01 ct cushion with a four-prong head--do you think the buttercup style prongs would look good on my ring? I don''t love the prongs on my ring now, they''re a bit thick and angular to me.

Opinions? Will the buttercup style work with a four-prong head and cushion shape? Any other suggestions for different prongs?

Here''s a picture of my ring right now:

Here''s Jcrow''s before and after comparisons: (I hope you don''t mind me posting these, Jcrow!)

I would be apprehensive about changing the head on your setting. For one thing, it might need more space at the base of the head and you have a diamond band, so it might not fit in the current space. I think there is a stuller 4 prong head similar to the 6 prong, but they are pretty fat prongs and would have to be thinned out a bit.

Looking at J Crow's first setting, the head was waaay too high. I don't think yours is that high is it?

The other issue that occurs to me is that if you put a more cupped head and lower the stone, it might cause more of a problem with your wedding band hitting the prongs. Just be sure you check on all those kinds of things before making a change.

I love your description of the prongs...buttercup...I see you in the meadow

I would make an inquiry if I were you I also like the "buttercup" style. You know Haven, I can''t think of a cushion I have ever seen in that head...have you seen one? I have seen rounds of course. I love your ring just the way it is! Is is so dreamy.

I would ask a jeweler, odds are you won''t let the idea rest until you get a professional opinion. But I must warn you...that is how mine got separated from my ring...and you know the rest of the story.

I think your original ring has a post head in it. I can see a smidgen of where the head meets the ring and it looks like it is just a plug and play. As DS suggested it is possible you don''t have enough space in that slot to accommodate the BUTTERCUP head but all things can be custom-ed...so ask, what do you have to loose? (don''t ask me to answer that

Maybe better photos here on PS will get your answers you seek. Can you take more?

i agree with DKS, i''d ask a jeweler or wf specifically for their opinion on the situation. seems like it would work, but they totally know best
