Should I buy this?

an M... no cut in the world is going to mask the colour so completely that it looks like a colourless stone, esp. from the pavilion. I think once you hit L you need to embrace the tint - there's no hiding it regardless of what metal you choose.

I think an M would look fantastic in high-carat yg - in fact, that's exactly the combo I'm dreaming of for a RHR

Ditto, you just have to like it, it is a personal preference thing.

Thanks, sounds like I need to go and see the stone to gauge the colour. Any comments on the cut and ASET?

Cut looks good.

Hi,

I am looking for a diamond in the region of $6000, what do you think of this one?

In is colour M, but does the Infinity cut make up for that? I would have it set in gold rather than platinum.

Thanks for any advice!
Its a beautiful diamond but yes, the warmth is absolutely something you need to be able to embrace as the saying goes. The superior cutting can help a lower colour face up whiter to a certain extent but it is still possible you will see warmth in some lighting. You could always take a look in person to see what you think?

Ditto. You may love it, but it may be too warm for you. That''s something only you can answer.

Cut wise, they are the same, infinity is pretty consistent.

Are you near one of the vendor? You can ask a few to be shipped in for viewing. That would be the best to determine what is your preference.

Thats what I would do. An L colour will still show some warmth but to me its more subtle than an M, but individual colour perception varies so much and you could be surprised at how well Infinity face up anyway so take a look in person if you can.

Sarap has a lower colour Infinity, she might be able to give you her thoughts.

I've owned Infinity diamonds in J, M, and my current I color. As others have said the cut is consistent across the brand, and it is top notch. So each stone you're considering is well-cut. That leaves size, color, clarity, and of course, price considerations.

As for color, I agree with the others, it's best to see them in person if you can. But, from my experience, my M color Infinity was definitely off white in color, a soft white not a dirty white, most of the time. Under some lighting conditions, my M was golden color (very cool!). Many people thought it was a "champagne" diamond. But they were not insulting the color -- far from it. People were attracted to it because it sparkled like a diamond but was not a traditional ice white diamond. But you do have to embrace the color and set it in such a way that it will enhance the color -- high carat yellow gold will look beautiful with this diamond.

My J color diamond was noticeably whiter than my M. Very rarely would it show a golden color, and then I was never sure if it was the diamond or just the diamond reflecting a color in its environment. But again, J colors are not ice white; they are soft white. The biggest difference from the M to the J is that the M color was noticeably more changeable, depending on the time of day, the lighting conditions and the angle of the light. A K would be close to a J, but from what I've read on this forum, a K may change color more frequently and be more noticeable, and on up through the alphabet, with L showing more noticeable color than K, but less than M.

I currently own an I color Infinity, as I mentioned, but it has strong blue fluorescence which seems to make the stone a bit brighter and whiter in some lights. It seems very white to me, not an ice white, but it definitely looks "white" in all lighting conditions. The color doesn't change the way my M stone did.

Stones in this color range are excellent values, and when set in settings that flatter their natural beauty, they are stunning and a bit unusual.

One other consideration is the skin tone of the person who will be wearing the stone. I found that because my skin has pink undertones, my M did not flatter my coloring. So I traded it in for my current I color stone. I really wish I could wear the L, M, N and lower colors, because they are beautiful and so undervalued in the market!

ETA: To answer your question, if I had to buy one, which one would I pick -- well, if I found that I liked lower colors AND they flatter my skin tone, I'd choose the M because of the size and the clarity! But the others are lovely, too, and in fact, I would consider going with an Infinity K color if I chose to upgrade my stone again, because I think for me that's the lowest color level I can wear that will still flatter my skin tone.

I''m with many of the previous posters on being absolutely certain your gf likes warmer stones before you pull the trigger. If you''re interested in going down to 1.2 cts or so size-wise, you can get a whiter (G or H SI1) stone and still come in under budget. You could probably go down to an I and find a stone in the 1.3 ct range, or even down to a J and still find a stone of comparable size and quality.
