Welcome to Pricescope SP!

Marty is right, the price looks high with a quick search above for an EGL graded diamond. I am a little confused, you say you got an offer for this diamond, is it with a jeweller or are you buying it from a private individual or online?

Hi All,

thanks for the quick response! sorry for not being clear in my original post. My fiance and I are buying through a brick and mortar jeweler. They told us this is the best we could get for our budget ( of course). I don''t really believe them, as I have seen some similar GIA stones online for a few hundred $ cheaper. I think I might be happy with the specs of the stone if it were GIA. I like the proportions on paper and am fine with the clarity, and on top of that I''d be a bit more confident that it really was an SI2, E. I know its a bit high, but I''ve been looking for pears all over the place and they are just few and far between, so i really wanted this one to work!

However, its not a GIA, its an EGL- Israel. Having this in my mind just makes me so suspicious that its perhaps an I2, and a G or F. In that case I could see that I am definitely paying too much. Looks like I might head to the internet....

To add to that trouble, we put money down for the platinum custom setting. We told them to hold off until we decided on a diamond. However, when I called them a few days ago they told me the setting was already done! And that I just needed to confirm what diamond i wanted. This was not what we agreed to. And now I feel like were trapped and we have to continue to do business with them even though they didn''t follow our original agreement and are not being helpful in finding us the stone we want. I hate them!

Sorry this turned into a mini venting session with poor grammar and punctuation. Anyway, your inputs have really helped, now I just have to figure out what I''m going to do about this situation with the jeweler....

If you did not give them the go ahead for the setting there is no way you should feel obligated to buy it. I doubt that they started it anyway because until you settle on a stone how would they know what size it was going to be? And you certainly have the right to buy any stone size and shape that you want. I think they are hoping not to lose you as a customer and want to make you feel obligated to buy from them. No good!
