So this person I know (not a friend if that matters, only someone I know casually) is selling a tennis bracelet, made up of 25 diamonds of approx 50 pts each - some over 50pts, some slightly under. They're all GIA-certed, G and H colour, VS1- VS2 clarity. The cut is all VG (none Excellent), no fluor.
She's having some personal issue and is practically begging me to buy it. I feel bad for her, and of course I don't want to take advantage of the situation; but feel that she could use the money. (Incidentally, she's trying to also sell me her Chanel J12 watch, but that's the thread for DF). She won't tell me how much she wants for the bracelet but I am guessing she'd take SGD20k or approx USD16k.
I am not 100% sure for 2 reasons (other than the ethical reason that might be niggling at me in the LR - that I might feel like I am taking advantage of her or of the situation):
i) My DH and I don't have a bottomless pocket (despite some of the responses on my other thread on Hangout which may suggest / imply otherwise); but at the same time I've been wanting a tennis bracelet for a while now. I am very much a bracelet girl and would like to stack that with my existing bracelet.
ii) the diamonds are not even Excellent cut, only VG - some have depths as deep as 63-64%. Now, if I was to buy it, I would NOT have the diamonds recut, as recutting fees + re-certification would add up to the cost (to the tune of at least USD6-7k in total, I reckon). I have seen this woman wear this bracelet many times and it is plenty blingy.
Diamonds of these specs should cost at least USD1k each, making it a total of some USD25-30k minimum, once you add the cost of gold and labour.
So should I buy it? Yay or Nay? Or Maybe (if it's a Maybe, please state why - if you need more infor, please let me know).
Thank you.
