Should I Add Milgrain?

Y''know, after coming back for a second look, I think I am going to change my answer and go with no miligraining. I like the idea of maybe putting a satin finish on the halo instead of the shiny polished one. To me, the polished halo doesn''t look quite right with the detailed sides (but heck, what do I know?

I second what FG said.....it is SO pretty now and just see how you like it--they can always add milgrain but can''t *really* take it away (not easily anyway!!)

Gorgeous ring and delicious stone!
Although us PSers absolutely loathe having to send our precious rings back for adjustments after we''ve finally got them in our hot little hands, I think you should live with it for a few weeks before making a final decision. Then, if you still want the milgraining, then it can be added (albeit you have to part with this beauty for a few weeks in the process

Honestly, I think I would want it milgrained, so it would be consistent with the rest of the shank''s design and also in keeping with the vintage look, whereas -- IMO -- a polished bezel is more contemporary.
For some ideas, visit www.antiqueengagementrings.com -- he''s got some rings where the stones are bezel set (I think there is a princess cut or two currently) and they are milgrained if I am remembering correctly which I think looks fabulous.

I agree 100% with Quest. Your diamond stands out and the setting looks vintage but crisp and elegant without being fussy. I think the millgrain would detract and take away the crispness of the setting. It''s really so unique and breathtaking as is.... and as other''s have pointed out... you can always add millgraining later. Plus I like the organic design on the shank contrasting with the crisp look of the bezel. Just lovely.

I used to be a huge fan of milgrain, but the more I look at it the less I like it. I think it''s going to go out of style soon, but who really knows. Also, your diamond might get lost a little in the setting with milgrain. Either way, it''s a gorgeous ring!

Chrono - I love your ring...I think it''s beautiful on it''s own! It''s really pretty!

Thank you to all those who commented on the ring design. It really gave me a lot to think about.

Well, I called Quest this afternoon and found out that Hap had been thinking about the milgrain too for 1 hour after we had talked over the telephone yesterday. In fact, before I had a chance to say anything else, he said that he has changed his mind about the milgrain and now thinks it would help the bezel blend in better. A little less stark as he now thinks the contrast is a bit much between the shiny bezel and milgrained shank. Nothing obvious, just really fine milgrain that you have to look really close to see it.

I am so happy to hear this! That is exactly what I envisioned. Really delicate and fine milgrain on the bezel so that it is a softer look yet still distinct and clean (non fussy). Quest said the ring will be done in a day or two. Will keep you all posted unless you are already bored.

Yay!! I think the fine milgraining will add a nice touch to the bezel. So glad he changed his mind. Can''t wait to see it once it''s done. Bored? Never!!!

Can''t wait to see the finished product!!!!!!!!!!!!

As one of the milgrain proponents I am happy to hear it! I do think it will help the bezel be less ''stark'' compared to the rest of the setting. I can''t wait to see it!!!!

If Quest now says to add the Milgrain I''m with them. I thinnk it really will complement and blend in (in a good way) with the shank of the ring. It''s going to be fabulous.

I started to reply to this and realized you already made your decision. I can't wait to see how it turns out. Such a lovely ring!
