Hi, does anyone have any recommendations or experiences shopping for diamonds in Vancouver, BC? Debating between buying a diamond online or through the store. If anyone has good experiences dealing with sellers in Vancouver, BC please let me know. Thanks!

Are you looking to purchase stones or have a piece of jewelry made?

I'm not from Vancouver. I can recommend one store in Vancouver which has it's sister store In Alberta. They are family business with a solid reputation. I've purchased many pieces from them x ~15 yrs. They've designed, made jewelry for me, including my diamond wedding ring. Their workshop is located in Vancouver. They are Brinkhaus.

What are the taxes in BC? I just wonder because I live a couple hours south of the boarder and there are BC license plates everywhere, so it seems there are good deals here and a lot of people crossing the boarder to shop at our suburban malls for silly stuff at Nordstrom & Old Navy so if they're willing to travel for that, then for diamonds...who knows!

You just need to see what customs requires and taxes for buying diamonds from the US. Even if the prices are similar, you might find a vendor who sells better quality diamonds in the US.

Blondie - I'm looking to get a stone. I'm going with Tacori for the ring. Been looking high and low for the right design and saw one specific Tacori and knew that it was the one.

MC - US is an option. I could get it shipped to somewhere in Washington close to the border and pick it up too. Just would be nice if I could see the diamonds in person so Vancouver would be more convenient.

There is a diamond broker that a lot of people use (a lot of Canadian celebs use him...like all the Canucks). I think his name is Colin (maybe Diamonds Direct?). Ive met with him several times and my brother and a few aquaintances have bought from him. He included a simple gold tiffany replica setting for free when a friend bought. Prices were fair but I cant compare them to PS vendors as I wasnt looking at the same time.

If you want to ship a US diamond close to the border, a popular place is The Letter Carrier at Point Roberts. They receive a lot of packages...mainly from Ebayers who dont ship to Canada. Last I checked it was only$ 3-4 for an incoming shipment. I'm sure that there are now more mailbox companies close to the border now but I think Pt Roberts is the closest.

If you NEED to start shopping right away and want an Idealscope, I have one with me that I received 2 weeks ago and you can buy it off me before I leave Vancouver on Thursday.
A few friends also bought from Montecristo...I haven't seen a dud from them yet. But im sure it won't be cheaper than a PS vendor.

If you can find out the name of the store and/or the person you deal with, that would be great.

How much for the Idealscope? Never used one before.

Thanks

Khiyasu,
You like your setting. This is great. I don't know who sells diamonds direct in Vancouver. I'm sure though someone here has this information for you. There is a wealth of information here, and reputable vendors. Good luck. :)

Thanks! Hoping to get one this week as the Tacori dealer would like to know the measurements of the diamond so that they can set it better

Just read this post the other day and yours sounded familiar except this was in
Montreal so opposite end of Canada but near border and looking for Tacori.

Hey Pyramid,

Thanks for that. I already bought the Tacori here. Just looking for the diamond. I think WF A Cut Above is the way to go for me for the princess diamond as its so hard to actually find an excellent/ideal cut diamond from stores/online. Anyone can tell me its an excellent cut but since I wouldn't know how to judge myself, may be best to just go with WF A Cut Above. What do you think?

Yes I love Whiteflash and Good Old Gold. I am in the UK and bought from Whiteflash.

I don't have a princess cut but remember thinking the prettiest ones in my opinion were the ones from
Crafted by Infinity which is Paul Slegers company, they just looked good to my eye. I think he is in
Antwerp or Belgium but sells through Wink in the US.

Wink is a vendor on the forum and his website is
http://HighPerformanceDiamonds.com[... all about them and they look the best to me.

Do you have a link to the Infinity princess diamonds? I mainly like WF because they grade the cuts. I could go into the store but the seller can tell me its an excellent cut, but since I don't really know how to look if its an excellent cut or not, it would be hard for me to know if it really is cut excellently or not. The AGS ideal cut grading just gives me a piece of mind, right?

Also, if you have experience looking at AGS stones and if they are good diamonds or not, maybe you could help me out here: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/please-help-pick-the-best-wf-stone-thanks.192164/
