Shopping for a stone - Need advice

Also, the 2.44 Carat I-SI2 Ideal- Cut Round Diamond for $19K seems like a winner assuming it''s eye clean. I''d like to spring for a slightly bigger stone with the same specs if possible. I''m gonna check it out.

Well, there''s really not much more, I just found one. Like I said, there''s not a lot in the bigger sizes. And the prices jump from what I found you up to the 30,000ish range.

If it were me, I''d start with the biggest and work my way down. i.e. Call JA about the one being eyeclean (I kinda doubt it will be from all angles though, but it doesn''t hurt to ask). Then the GOG, then WF.

That one from GOG will definitely give the "look" of a 2.5.

I found another stone worth considering, but I feel like the price might actually be TOO cheap. The bank wire price is $24K. I was told it was eye clean. If it is indeed eye clean, what factors are effecting the price? The polish & symetry? I was told these aren''t very important as long as the they are at least "Good", and the cut is "Ideal".

Any opinions on this particular stone would be EXTREMELY helpful, as I have it on hold right now.

Regarding your setting, I just wanted to chime in that Tacori makes rings to order for specific stones... so you don''t want to buy the display setting in any case.

I agree with Gypsy, SI2s are not always eyeclean, and it seems from the certificate that there are inclusions all over the place. I kinda wonder what their definition of "eyeclean" is. That coupled with only "good" in both symmetry and polish would make me nervous about buying that stone.

But hey, if you want to get the crown & pavillion angles, and an idealscope image for the stone we can help you evaluate it, if you are truly intrigued.

The crown and pavillion angles would be needed to assess the last diamond, it might be a possible. Don't go so much by the plot on the grading report, they often suggest the inclusions look worse than they actually are, especially in an SI2. Decide your level of eyeclean and check with the vendor that this diamond is or isn't eyeclean before dismissing it. Also polish and symmetry of good and above look the same to the untrained eye, some prefer excellent or ideal on both as part of their package, but this isn't always essential, unless you want a true superideal. It is possible that the inclusions on this diamond are light in colour and might not be too visible, check carefully with the vendor. An Idealscope image could be helpful too.

Who knew buying a diamond could be so stressful! You guys are a huge help though, and I really appreciate everyone taking the time out to offer me some advice. I am leaning towards the 3ct "I" SI2 again. It seems like a really nice stone for just shy of $24K. Top down it is pretty much flawless. It has some inclusions on the bottom though, which I hope aren''t visible when set. In any case, I am going to keep on looking for a few more days, especially on JA, WF & GOG.

Inclusions all over the place is sometimes good. If smaller inclusions are spread out, it''s more likely to be eye-clean than one or two large inclusions.

Also, before committing 100% to that particular Tacori setting, I checked out a few more. I found another that I like, but the jeweler does not have it in stock at the moment. He is going to order it in on memo so I can take a look at it. I''d love to hear what you guys/gals think between the two.
