Hello All,

I have been shopping around for an engagement ring and heard a few different warranty options. Most places will refinish - replate the ring (white gold) and replace stones if they fall out. I haven''t read all the fine print I''m sure most of these places have to inspect the ring and make a decision about replacement. I have a small chain of store in my state that say they replace anything, no questions asked, but they are also more expensive. I found something I liked at Jarred, but you have to bring the ring in every year i think it was for an inspection. I think that to be something you wouldn''t want to pass on to your girlfriend. Give her a ring and tell her make sure to take it in every year so the warranty is good. Am I to picky in this case or how have any of you shopped based on the warranties offered?

Thanks

I don't think it would make an impression one way or another to me if the purchase had one of these store warranties. They can be suspended if the business is in trouble, have to be maintained, etc. I think what would matter to me is how my spouse reacted as a result of the warranty. If you nag or hound her about check in's etc, or give her a guilt trip if she misses a check in... then I can see the warranty being a PITA. But if you just let her know about it and let her decide what she's going to to about it, or offer to take it in for check ins yourself... then okay.

I personally think these are a bit of a waste of money and time, but everyone has different priorites. I would rather buy from a place that is known for it's excellence in cut and quality and who stands behind their sales with just a standard materials, workmanship and defects warranty on pieces and a buy back and upgrade on their stones (and making sure my stone qualifies for these policies). And then get my ring insured. But that's me.

Honestly, warraties offered by jewelers are just marketing and are not worth much in real outcomes. Insurance will cover anything major happening to your ring or your diamond, and anything smaller costs next to nothing to fix -- less than $100. So I really would not put too much attention on that aspect of the buying experience.

A good jewler will fix damage caused by defects for free anyways.
