PLEASE give me your honest opinion about this diamond. I''ve put it on hold and I''m scared to death. I ran it through the HCA thing and got a score of 1.5....I sure hope I''m doing it right though because there is a range of number on the SARIN report.

I''m also a bit worried that inclusions will be noticeable. The lady on the phone said "eye clean to 8cm".

The price seems to be halfway decent and that scares me also.

Here it is.....

1.11 round brilliant

The numbers look good but the enlarged pictures has inclusions that scare me a little too. But the price seems good and it might be worth a look. Also, it has a girdle that is very thin in areas and that would also concern me. Good Luck.

I have to admit, I don't know enough about the round numbers to be able to tell you for sure about those.

But, one thing I did notice, is that one of the "arrows" is slightly masked, so the stone is not perfectly symmetrical. If it doesn't bother you though, I wouldn't worry about it. But that might be why the price is better than others.

1.5 is a good score though, someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think 2 is ideal for erings? So if you did it right, should be a fine stone!

ETA: I agree with hikerchick about the enlarged picture. But since there is a return policy, why not, you can always return it if you don't like it in person!!!

I sure wish the GIA report was more clear so you could see exactly where the problem areas are.
Are the gray speckle things at the bottom of the stone inclusions or just due to poor picture quality I wonder?

I know the stone isn''t perfect and frankly, I don''t want one ($$). I''m just wondering if she or her friends will think it''s repulsive! It''s not too late to turn away from it. I need some peer pressure from you Pricescope professionals!

My girl likes bigger looking stones. I figured this would be a compromise of size and quality. Of course I had to go and pick a girl whose mom has HUGE rocks! Dang the luck

Hi

I will throw in my 2 cents.

You seem to be worried about people being able to visible inclusions and I totally understand that. I feel the same way.

The price looks good, but there is a potential problem with a thin girdle at some point on the diamond.

I personally, dont think you are sold with this diamond. Just my opinion.

Good Luck

Here is my thinking......I would buy a quality stone smaller in size and have Whiteflash put some quality melles around it and it will look big. Later on, you can upgrade that diamond and you and your wife can have fun looking together for a bigger diamond from Whiteflash because of their lifetime trade up policy. Go for the ACAs

the huge pavilion and crown variation is a red flag, wf has much better cut stones available.

any of the guys out there feel my pain?

julie, i really appreciate the link but that I color turns me off a bit. i saw a J color in the jewelry store the other day and i realized how important color is...to me anyway.

i really enjoy looking at the "in house" diamonds as they tend to have more info with them. it seems like most of the diamonds i am looking at don''t have a whole lot of information or actual pictures to look at. i guess i can''t see spending thousands of dollars without seeing a picture first. the only problem is the in house diamonds appear to cost much more.

my ideal diamond (in order of importance) would be 1.00 or larger round brilliant. a true eye clean SI1 (4-6 inches?). D-G in color. decent cut, symmetry, etc. my budget is $4,800 or less.

honestly, i keep getting hung up on the dimensions of the diamond. i know my girlfriend likes big diamonds and naturally, i''d like to get her one. for some reason i find myself being MUCH less interested in diamonds less than 6.5mm.

any problems with my thought processes?

Just the fact that you only require a "decent" cut diamond. You are underweighting the most important factor. And no need to spend money on D or E color, as you won''t be able to tell the difference between D/E and F/G... eye-clean SI1 is a good idea...

What about this stone?

yes, your budget is 2 years out of date for the stone you want.
Add about $1k to that for todays prices.

Do you know if the "j" you saw was GIA cert or EGL? EGL often grades stone color softly, so the color may have been actually lower than a j.......

i appreciate everyone''s help. i''m going to go ahead with the original diamond as planned though. the more i look at it the less concerned i am about the cut quality. i know it isn''t perfect but oh well. i really think it will be a nice diamond considering we will be fresh out of college.

the thing that worries me most about the stone is the girdle thickness. i hope i''m being too paranoid about it. i would hate for the stupid thing to chip. i''m sure that in the history of people buying diamonds, i won''t be the first guy to buy a diamond with a very thin girdle. if it chips it chips. it''s really easy to get caught up in the small details of these diamonds. if you''re not careful you can drive yourself crazy. life is too short to worry about a dumb little rock! if i had my druthers, i''d spend the money on a motorcycle or a fat guitar

i don''t think my girl would agree though

so now, i need to find the perfect band to go with the not so perfect stone. will keep everyone who is interested posted on my future struggles.

cheers!

Well, you should buy insurance regardless of the thin girdle.
