Hi All! I''m having my engagment shipped from New York City to my sister''s house in California but i''m dont think i have time to go get it myself for another week yet. I can''t wait to see my ring so i want to ask her to send it back to me. Does anyone know what the deal is with shipping through the major carriers, insurance and such? My ring is kinda expensive 50K and i dont want to risk having it stolen..

any thoughts?

You can insure it with UPS for up to 50K or with Registered mail I believe the insurance still limits coverage to 25K although you can declare the full value, you only can buy 25K of coverage...

USE UPS overnight Figure about $200 shipping with UPS overnight. Nearly as much for ground shipping anyway. Far less with Registered, but I don't think you can purchase 50K coverage with USPS unless they have changed their rules.

You cannot use Fed-Ex as they DO NOT cover jewelry.

I suggest you ship from one UPS office to another and pick up the package personally at a local office rather than have it delivered.

i second the recommendation for UPS insured--that's what we did and it was just fine. i also second the recommendation to pick it up yourself at the post office because they delivered mine to the wrong building and i lost about 2 years of my life worrying about it until they finally got it straight.

yes that's a mildly expensive ring
