Anyone out there with experience dealing with Shenoa & Co (or Global Bargain Hungers), please post your advice.

Here''s what happened...
Purchased a 1.5, H, VS2 with a platinum setting. As soon as I received it, I took it to two different jewelers who both said it was nowhere near an "H" in color. It was between an "N" or "O". It is being shipped back to them this morning. I went online to see what I could find out about Shenoa. Apparently, the scam they pull is to send a poor quality diamond out. Most people don''t complain. Those that do get the run-around. They''ll try and say that they don''t have what you bought in stock, and get you to pay more. I''m anticipating an ugly fight. Who do I talk to? What can I threaten them with?

I don''t want another ring, after reading the horrible stories. I feel really stupid for buying it in the first place. We knew it was too good to be true, but figured we could return it if it wasn''t. I''m afraid of them holding my money hostage.

Please help...

I'm not sure about Shenoa & Co, but the practice that you describe isn't a scam for an upsell, it's flat out illegal.

Plus, you should check out ANY purchase with an independent appraiser who doesn't sell diamonds themselves to get a real unbiased opinion.

Good luck!

We have not heard of this before, but you may be in for a fight. Just remain polite and stick to getting back your money if the diamond is not right. Did you do everything within the limited time of the guarantee decision period? Did you have them make a custom mounting, or any other special thing just for you?

If you bought just a stock diamond or a non-custom ring, you will likely have little problem so long as your return was within the allowed time limit..... I hope it will all work out okay for you. There are certainly much nicer
alternatives.

Here is the text of their return policy. I sure hope you didn't go somewhere else for sizing.

REFUND POLICY
If you are unsatisfied for any reason, you may return the item for a full refund within 14 days after receiving the item.
Any jewelry that has been sized, set, unset or modified by the customers once they have received it is non returnable.
All items must be returned in original condition. The refund will be in the same form as the purchase was made. This return policy only applies to online ShenoaDiamonds.com purchases.

I have no idea how Shenoa will treat an item of their's bought on E-Bay. They may have a different return policy.

Hopefully you paid with a credit card.
Give them one chance to refund your money then turn it over to your credit card company.

Thanks for your reponses. Yes, I returned the ring within one day, which is well within their return policy. Also, the ring was a stock item, as listed on EBAY.

On this website, there is a posting titled "Just bought a diamond from Shenoa & Co: Need advice FAST please!!!". This posting has many responses, some describing their bad experiences with Shenoa. It appears that they are pulling a scam.

Here is Shenoa'st current Ebay return policy:

REFUND POLICY
If you are unsatisfied for any reason, you may return the item for a full refund within 5 days after receiving the item. Any jewelry that has been sized, set, unset or modified by the customers once they have received it is non returnable. All items must be returned in original condition. The refund will be in the same form as the purchase was made.

Global Bargain Hunters has the same return policy except they give a 7 day return limit instead of 5 days.

hopefully you returned it registered and certified so that you will get a confirmation back on when they signed for the package to prove that it was within the 5 day return policy. otherwise they can claim they never got it or got it after the 5 days etc. good luck! if you paid with a cc, and they give you any problems, use the cc company to assist in disputing the charge, using your return papers and confirmations to prove you did what was required.

and yes as you found out...if it seems too good...you know! be wary!

Was the Item purchased on eBay or was the Item purchased directly from Shenoa & Co or was their another aka name of the seller?

Yes, I used a credit card to purchase the ring. So, we'll turn it over to them if it gets to that.

I saw the ring on Ebay, then called their 1800#. At which time, I purchased the ring over the phone. The company name is "Global Bargain Hunters". But, they are a part of Shenoa & Co. Their store front name is Shenoa & Co. Not sure why they operate under two names (?).

They may operate under two names because it will confuse folks that are in an emotional state even more and may lead them to act in a manner that will not be to their advantage.

The more upset and flustered you are, the more likely you are to miss one of their "policies".

My heart goes out to you! My only advice is to document, document, and document some more! It will definitely help that your credit card was charged--just make sure, as Mara said, that you can prove you returned the stone and that it was received within the appropriate time frame!

This seller, reportedly has signed up with Square Trade which is a mediation service.

Go back onto one of the sellers auction listings and scroll down the page until you see the green Square Trade icon--then click on it and start surfing Square Trade services.

They do offer mediation service for a small fee. They are experienced with situations involving the eBay members community. And since you bought your ring as a result of the information provided on eBay (possibly the sellers store?) this would be where you would want to consider begining. This may be a viable option.
