I am looking for a setting to go with a 2carat, G color, round cut diamond.

I am currently thinking of getting a tapered cathedral setting in platinum. Note, I am deciding among one of the 15 platinum classic settings on blue nile.

Just curious to get more knowledgable opinions on settings for this ring and the characteristics it would bring out.

For instance, I thought the cathedral setting would help the diamond blend in more to the setting. With a diamond this large, I thought it might look awkward otherwise.

Really appreciate the knowledge on this site. Thanks in advance.

Are you getting the diamond from blue nile or from elsewhere? For a solitaire, you may want to think about whether you like the look of a 4 prong head vs. a 6 prong head. Do a little searching here on PS. There are so many beautiful large solitaires here. Then you''ll get a feel for what you like. Then attach a link to the ones you like on Blue Nile and we''ll all put our two cents in!

What type of setting does the lady who will wear it want? Settings are totally personal preference and there is really no "right" or "wrong" way to go.

I personally also like a cathedral setting, for what its worth.

any setting with pave will do it for me!

We do plan to get the setting from blue nile (assuming we buy the diamond there, which it looks like we will).

I like the petite trellis ring that was suggested but didn''t care for the larger ones.

She likes a classic look. She wants just a single stone setting but beyond that she isn''t sure either. She has tried the tapered cathedral and liked it but I didn''t think it wowed her. She also like tiffiany settings but again not more or less than the others.

Does anyone know what characteristics a 6 prong versus 4 prong highlight? What about the thickness of the ring? Maybe if I hear the focus of the different setting, we will be able to determine which makes more sense.

Thanks for the help
