I''ve been so focused on rocks, now that I''m close to a decision, I realize I know nothing about settings. the request was for a lucida type -I think I''m going to try something with the trellis type mount, but a little lighter around then the standard lucida. I''ve been quoted prices ranging from $500 to $2000 for a platnium setting like this.

Blowing most of my budget on the rock - will I regret buying a $500 setting of this type down the road?

a lucida in platinum for 500 sounds too inexpensive maybe....(if there is such a thing!) I dunno. But there is no reason not to get a pretty but less substantial setting (like the $500 one) now and upgrade the setting down the road!

The least costly version is likely to be less well finished and light weight than more costly ones. However, that does not exactly mean the most costly is the best either. It could be too heavy, no better finished than one 600 or 700 dollars less. One can't really tell by price alone.

Best to visually compare.
Better than nothing to ask each vendor the gram weight of the mounting and to have them send you a hi-res close-up photo of the mountings.

It may well be the $500 job will do just fine or that one at $650 is a lot better. No one could possibly predict.
