Help please

Hi guys. I am a complete novice. SO and i are meeting with the jeweller on Monday to start planning for my ering. All i know is that i want a simple setting for round centre stone set in prongs. The rest is unknown at this stage.

Now here''s where i need the help. Can anyone suggest a website / or attach pics of nice settings which i may use to show jeweller and help design our dream ring?

Thanks in advance

Welcome!!

i really like mark morrell''s simple solitaire settings. his work seems to be very popular here on PS, i personally really like the flame -- ironically, it looks really fluid to me. here''s the link: http://www.mwmjewelry.com/

hope that helps some!! congratulations, have fun at the jeweler''s!!

Go and try some on if you can, or I guess you will try some at the jewelers? things that I love online don''t always turn out to be what I hoped on-finger.

Also browse pearlmansjewelers.com. He is a Pricescope vendor with an impeccable reputation and a website chock full of rings.

Have fun and don''t forget to report back!

thank u very much. I have tried on a whole bunch of things. This one is close to what we are imagining.

I have tried on many many rings, however all the ones I''ve tried on, the band seems to narrow towards the setting and i really hate that on me. Also the claws aren''t think enough and the settings all just look very generic, wherever you shop.

I forgot to mention that i am in Australia. So I won''t be able to deal with any of these people directly, my jeweller will just have to replicate something.

Actually I love Mark Morrell''s Sunburst but I don''t like the tapering either. How much is your budget/is there a time crunch? Because you could ask him to do a Sunburst, which has the simple 6 prong, low-set head, but without a tapered band - or maybe even a knife-edged band like the one on his Flame, if that is more your style.

Oops, just read the part about Australia. It seems that you want a simple, 6-prong Tiffany-style setting? Maybe you can take in pictures and ask him to replicate it, but while doing so, do different prongs and make sure the band is what you want?

Hope it works out!

Since you mentioned your preference for the band NOT tapering toward the stone, I think you might like an X-prong/trellis setting...

I really love this setting. It has 4 prongs but I imagine it could be set with a 6 prong head somehow. I just love the rounded shank and it''s all the same size, no tapering: It''s from Leon Mege website, artofplatinum.com

In addition to the ones I suggested, Vatche also has a surprise diamond setting that widens rather than tapers toward the stone. Whiteflash actually has a lot of stock settings for rounds that do not have a taper. Good luck!

Mark Morrell has done rings with the sunburst head and a band that does not taper - another for consideration.

Here are some links. You could have it done without the beadset/channel diamonds in the band of course.

Hi supergirl,
you have already been given some great suggestions for designs. But I also wanted to mention that I am in Aust. and purchased online from the US. And there are many other PS''ers who have done the same, so there is no need to rule out these US designers.
If you would rather work with your local jeweller, of course thats great, just fyi

What state are you in? I always enjoy meeting new aussie PS''ers.!

arjunajane thanks for your input. I never even considered working with them being in australia. My only concern would be trying it on during the process, i would like to make sure it was going well etc, maybe that is silly though. What did you do about this? Do you mind me asking who you brought you ring through, and maybe a pic if you wouldn''t mind?

Oh and the local jeweller is fantastic he has won tons of awards etc so i am happy with him so far. I am in Queensland!

Supergirl, would you mind sharing your jeweler''s name? I am always on the look out :).

I am getting my ring designed OS as well I won''t get to try it on beforehand as it is custom but I have tried on similar styles so I think it should be all goo :)
