I am looking to have my wife''s 2.0 carat round diamond (excellent cut) reset. She has found a few settings at local full service jeweler however most of the samples have diamonds in the 1.0 size range. The concern is , that looking at samples with smaller center diamonds will not be a good indication of what the final setting will look like. I am looking for suggestions regarding what manufacturers of diamonds settings I should be considering for that size diamond. I would prefer manufacturers who have websites that have the graphics tools that allow me to see the settings with a 2.0 carat round diamond.

Hello,

Can you give us an idea of what type of setting your wife is interested in?

Well, the graphics thing might be hard. Actually the best suggestion I have is to look on HERE in the forum "Show me the Ring" and look at these two threads.

And for eye popping rings... https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/largest-stones-on-ps.30629/

A lot of PSers have 2 carat rings in many different settings. If can give us an idea of setting styles you are looking for we can almost definitely find you a pic of someone that owns a setting like it with a larger stone.

Lauren Q,

My wife has been looking at solitaire with sidestones and 3 stone settings. She found one that was two tone ( white gold and yellow gold) however it was designed for smaller stones. (My wife likes the platium/white gold settings however her wedding ring is gold. The two tone gave a reasonable look when next to her wedding ring) The local store contacted the supplier and they would not commit that the ring would have the same look with a bigger stone.

Since my wife is a nurse she does not want her diamond to sit to high. She is also concerned about settings that have diamonds and or detail that go to far around the ring since the backside of the ring will take more obuse.

Since my last post I have done some additional web search''s. Whiteflash''s settings are very nice however they have to be sold with a center diamond. I looked at since1910. The simpler Tacori settings and the Martin Flyer settings are also appealing. I want to deal with someone within driving distance of Connecticut.

I am hoping you can be of help. Keep in mind when you respond I understand the 4Cs of diamonds however I do not know any of lingo or acronyms regarding the settings.

diamondssect,

Both designers are a great choice and you can''t go wrong with either. 3 stone rings can be set low so your wife will not have a problem at work with this type of setting. For her profession, I wouldn''t recommend a setting with pave (small round diamonds) around the band or smaller side stones, but a setting with detail would be fine. I suggest purchasing platinum over white gold because of its weight and durability. It will be a little more costly, but well worth the money. If she would like to wear both rings together you can have her wedding band dipped in rhodium (member of the the platinum family and is the same color). If you choose to dip it you may need to get it done once a year to keep the color but the cost is minimal. The rhodium will also make her band more durable.

I hope I was able to help. I think a 3 stone ring is timeless and classic and her 2ct would look beautiful. Also, being married myself I like what it stands for....your yesterdays, today, and tomorrows.

Something to consider in design firms is the form of metal and the overall quality of the setting, and also whether the setting will be custom made for your center diamond and the appropriate finger size. If a design firm does not stock a 2.00 ct. center diamond standard in most mountings, it will be difficult for you to visualize.

Hi Diamondsct,
Can you by any chance post a of picture of your wife''s current wedding band? You do want something that works
with that correct? It just might help if we knew the style of it (or maybe you can tell us about it if you cant post
a picture).

Both brands are ordered according to size and can accomodate at least up to a 4.20ct RB with some settings being able to hold a 6.20ct center stone

Hi Diamondsct,

Whiteflash only requires stone and setting purchases together for some of their designs. Not all of them. The ones that do require this will say so on the setting page. For any brand that you are considering (tacori, Martin Flyer), and since he posted on here I would say take a look at Michael B''s setting''s they are stunning and have an incredible reputation in the industry for quality, I would suggest doing a search on here to see what other''s experiences have been with those brands.

As for driving distance of connecticut, goodoldgold carries a lot of nice lines you might have looked at and they are located in Long Island! Good luck.

tyty,

I don''t have a picture of my wife''s wedding band however I can describe it. It is a plain gold wedding band with no detail.
We have been married coming up on 27 years. Back when we were married the choices were simpler.

Lauren Q,

I assume you work for Since 1910. Does Since1910 do rhodium dipping?

diamondssect,

Good morning,

Rhodium dipping is fairly common and is a service offered by many.

I have done some additional searching. Here are my choices and their rank.

1) Vatche Channel-set Royal Crown Setting .15ct tw Vatche Channel-set Royal Crown Setting .15ct tw
2) Vatche Channel Set X Prong Setting
3) Precision Set Setting with Channel-Set Round Diamonds .25ct tw
4) FlyerFit Round Brilliant Channel Set Vintage Diamond Ring w/ Hand Engraved Scrolling

The Vatche Channel Set X prong (2) would be equal to number (1) Channel-set Royal Crown setting if it had the 6 prongs. My wife would feel more comfortable with 6 prongs versus 4. The upside on the FlyerFit setting is that I could get it locally ( within 20 miles) however that is not a must have.

The details on my wifes diamond are:

GIA
Cut Excellent
Polish Excellent
Symmetry Excellent
Fluorescence None
Clarity VS2
Color I ( when I had it appraised by a 3rd party appraiser it was very close to H)

The FlyerFit and the Precision I believe are designed to fit flush with most wedding bands. The Vatche settings do not have the same description in their write ups. I also noticed that the Vatche wedding bands have an indent which I assume is to fit with their diamond settings.

I would like recommendations or suggestions. Also, what would be the best way to approach Since1910 or another jewerly store who represents Martrin Flyer, Precision and Vatche.
