Setting... Too Modern?

Don't laugh.. but for a bit (months hopefully and not years) while I shop... AND SAVE :$$): .... this diamond will be living in a very simple not all that attractive solitarie setting... If I go with the SS it will be years...
Not laughing here! At least you get to wear that beauty while you save! Skipping the pave...does that mean you're thinking of just adding the miligrain to the plain Sholdt? I bet that wouldn't cost much more than the plain setting itself.

It's interesting how so many of us PSers were eyeing that same SS setting! MayK, I wish I had known your budget, or else I would have warned you in advance about the cost. :o But...as you said, you can save for the setting, and in the meantime wear it now in a different, more simple setting. I hope you are able to get it one day, it is definitely a *dream* setting!!!

I love the Sholdt with pave as well.

audball: Thanks for providing the quotes for the various settings. It's nice to have an idea of costs.

That is EXACTLY what I was thinking...I love the milgrain edge and wondering how it would look with the design where the pave' is...

I try to be respectful of the vendors, but if they didn't ask me to keep quotes private, than I figure it's okay. They do ask you to keep the additional photos etc private, and that I understand. They don't want anyone ripping off their profile designs and having their ring made some where else. It IS nice to have an idea of the cost, especially if it's WAY out of your budget.

I considering asking about no pave myself, but didn't. I've read too many horror stories of pave being delicate, etc and I'm just NOT that graceful (hence wanting a hefty sturdy setting with a bezel!). Let me know what they say about the miligrain! I suppose that's something that could be easily added down the line too. The plain quote is WAAAAY affordable for a designer setting. I was afraid to ask what it would cost because Pearlmans site lists even the plain one at 2,750, but that's for platinum and a 2ish ct stone. There will be some more metal on yours, so the quote will be more than mine, I'm sure, but it shouldn't be outrageous.

audball: I agree with what you said about vendor privacy re: quotes. Knowing a range ahead of time saves a consumer time in pursuing something that might be out of their price range.

One thing about the Singlestone setting for anyone interested. I can't share the other photos from the vendor, but there is one thing I liked a lot less about the setting when I got a head on shot of it. You can see in this shot from their website that there is a marquise shaped cutout on each side of the ring (I circled in red). From head on, it looks like an empty hole (to me). It does have a back, so it isn't a full cut out, but it looks like something is...missing. That killed part of the aesthetic to me. I'd almost want them to actually put a marquise in it! Or three small rounds in each graduated in size to fill the space. Again, me personally. It's hard to see it in this shot, but in case anyone was actually considering this setting and that side note makes a difference to you, I thought I'd share.

ETA: on the barely visible one on the right side, you get a little more of what I mean. It looks dark. And head on, both of them look like dark marquise shaped holes.

Definitely. It feels awkward having to shy away and say it's lovely, but I can't afford it. It feels to me like I've wasted their time. I wish they'd just put a ballpark on their site. I know there are a lot of factors from gold prices, ring size, stone size, etc, but still. A star system like Leon does? 1 star is between 1-2k, etc etc. Something that provides at least a little indication would help. Even Pearlmans site (for my size stone) was misleading since their shown in platinum with 2ct centers. I never DREAMED I could get a Sholdt on my budget. But I could.

Audball... SOOO glad you posted that picture... now I am now wild about it... seeing it in a larger version...... I can check that one off the list!!!
